Correct, and why pick up a guy who takes dumb penalties over and over. Stirs the pot when there's no reason to. Many on this board bash Tootoo and Konopka for the same thing and now want Army back. I dont get it. Not saying i want those guys either, but come on. Army's biggest value to the Pens was being Sid's caddy.

I haven't watched him much since he left, but you're right. At some point he just started sucking. If we could get him back as he was when he was younger, I'd be all for it.

Maybe, if the price is right and his health checks out. Noting that Army has been injured a fair bit the last few years means that he's been no different than Sid, Malkin, and Staal. For the two of those men still here, we don't seem to be holding that against them.

I think Army could play a 3rd or 4th line role on this team. Unlike Kennedy, he can kill penalties, and Army plays with more grit. I'm not sold on Kennedy's future with this team. He was inconsistent last year, and that was mostly playing with a center (Staal) who was and is more offensively talented than Brandon Sutter will be. The Penguin's third line going forward is going to be much more of a pure checking line than it has been up to now. IMO Kennedy fits poorly into that picture.

Yeah I mean I have a big time man-crush on Army but realistically, he doesn't fit in at all. There are multiple free agents that provide size, toughness, versatility, and/or experience that that I would sign way before I would sign him. Asham, Sullivan, Park, Prust, and Doan among them.

And guys let's not forget about Jeffrey and Tangradi who are younger, more talented, and have waaaay more upside. They both HAVE TO play this year because otherwise why the hell are they here?

The problem there is that Armstrong is not Staal, Sid, or Geno.

Great point. I would like to see somebody else with more size, grit, and penalty killing acumen in that 3rd line winger spot. I see Kennedy as such a tweener now, as the Penguins' roster is currently constructed (and that might ring truer after tomorrow's potential acquisitions). Not good enough to crack top 6; better options for bottom 6.

It is premature to speculate as to the nature of the team and the potential lines. However, it seems as if TK maybe on the way out along with Martin. I think the presence of Staal assisted Kennedy in his third line role; however, I think he was exposed as defensively lacking; along with many others, by the Flyers. There are better options available for the 3rd line. TK needs to move on to a team where he can fit into a true second line. Problem here is that we don't have a second line. The Pens have two 1st lines, a third and a fourth...........TK doesn't fit. Could Colby? Although TK might have a higher talent ceiling; Colby might fit into the 3rd/4th role better. That said; there are better options out there than Colby.

I don't know why anyone thinks the third line isn't to be that different? I mean obviously we no longer have a 2nd line center playing the 3rd line. We definitely lose out on very special things that Staal brought, but we're still going to have a center who's got the size, defensive ability, faceoff ability and yes...scoring ability. It may not be quite a the offensive ability of Staal, but it's realistically not that far off.
