Please we could use more close-ups of the pretty ladies in the crowd and more coverage of the ice crew doing their stuff.

I could do with less shots of Bob Errey, hate to see the guy try and try to pull a comb over of the part in his hair. Just let it go Bob, just let it go.

Todd Reirden's head should have a black bar over it.

I completely forgot about the lame and totally obvious green screen they were using last year for the Errey/Steigerwald shots between periods and before and after the games. Saying "less shots of Bob Errey" reminded me of it, so thank you for that.

Even though the 2 of them broadcast from way up in the media level of CEC, whoever ran the Root broadcast last year apparently thought they looked better being down in the 100 level, but didn't actually want to walk them down there, so they did it in front of a green screen to make it look like they were.

Always had supsicions of the green screen as both of their heads seemed to be "cut off" with the background overlapping it a bit, but could never confirm thats what they were doing. That is, until the night of Sid's first comeback game. Errey held up one of the "Welcome Back Sid" signs that were given at the gate that night, and the crowd in the background bled right through it.

I wish I could find a pic or video of it to show, but a quick search is all I have time for, and I'm coming up empty. I did grab a picture of it with an old cell phone. If I can find that phone, I'll post it here. Hilarious, and a reminder of how bad the Root broadcast really is.

Why did he come to Pittsburgh? The quality fo production for ROOT was so bad that even any change would have made it better including minkeys flipping random switches since I'm sure they would have caught more face offs coming back from break than what we saw last year. This guy's resume is great. Did the Pensguins see really how bad things were and wanted to get the best in the business?

friend of Sid. he also gave a hometown discount to come here!

I for one hope they do more unique camera angles and miss more face offs and goals.

was it the director last year who publicly came out and said that viewers really want all those cutaways and stupid camera angles? it would be funny if that guy only lasted a year.

edit: it was their GM (whatever that means) http://www.thepensblog.com/tpb/may2011/ ... et-it.html

I can think of a few reasons he'd come here, first and foremost being that the Pens top all ratings nationally in television as reported not to long ago.

I, personally, hate all those cutaways to the crowd. When one of the Penquins scores a great goal, I want to watch the player's reaction and celebration, not some random fan standing up clapping. There can be some time for fan shots, but not in place of the players, who we actually want to see.

I also hate it when there's some action going on at one end of the ice, and they focus in on the goalie just standing there. I have high hopes that a real hockey person is going to be directing at ROOT for the games.

i think wide shots of the crowd reacting to a goal are good. but zooming in on one arbitrary person is annoying.

...unless it's this guy. but he ain't arbitrary

Agreed, i want to see Geno jump in the glass, and see the players climb on top of each other. But if they don't show fans you wouldn't have a chance to see this.

lol JS!

In order for a foreigner to get a work visa to work in the states, his employer must state that he is providing a service that could not be provided as well by a local hire. I'm sure this will be no problem in ROOT's case.

CBC has been having money trouble. It's a government entity, so salaries and costs are being closely watched. Which would be one reason he might rather be here than working for them.
