saw a documentary about the Costco Craze, and it was shocking to see how powerful Costco is when it comes to wine sales and high end wine sales/selection to boot.

I'm also not sure if they every hit Penn. My understanding is that Pennsylvania is a tightly gov't controlled liquor state, and many times comapnies don't bother trying to send special releases into control states.

i really enjoyed this and it was only 18.99 on sale. maybe it was because i was used to my run on scotch, but this rum had a real nice sweetness to it.

splurged today and went with:

sipping some now with some ice since it's hot. never had a rum close to this expensive before and you can taste it.

Not as powerful as the PLCB, though.

See if you can find an Abuelo 7 anos or 12 anos from Panama. I got a few bottles of the 7 year at the airport (Panama) for $12 each and then had to order the 7 year for $21 from a local store. A friend brought back a bottle of the 12 year.

Drink that over ice with one lime wedge. Good stuff!

Hmm.... the only Central American rum I've ever had is Ron Zacapa. Have to replenish the stores before the weekend, so I'll keep a weather eye open for that Abuelo stuff.

:thumb:

Okay..... I'm seriously bummed. I've been to four or five booze shops in the past few weeks, and I can't find this rum.

:(

I've recently started aging my own bourbons, and I really like some of the results, although waiting a year to get the result is a little annoying.

You had me at "My bar consists of 52..." There really doesn't need to be any further clarification.

Tif,

It's really hard to find. I actually had my local store special order the 7-year. It was about $21 or so. The 12-year I get by asking a friend who is married to a Panamanian woman to pick some up when he is down there. That said, I prefer the 7-year.

Also, check out this single malt, aged for 14 years with the last two years being aged in rum casks to give it a sweeter finish. Heaven!

That ranges from $50-$60 a bottle but worth it for special occasions.

Here's a place in LA that will ship it, but it's $27.

Sweet Mary Magdalene....... one of my favorite liquor shops is in Culver City, but they don't ship and I'm rarely up there. The stock my favorite cachaça (Velho Barreiro) and I just saw that they stock the Ron Abuelo.

Now I have two reasons to take a long lunch.

So this website sells a lot of rarer cask alcohols if anyone wants to join today (free to join)- http://www.caskers.com/

Go under invitation code and use "THRILLIST"

edit: Not sure what can and can't be shipped up there in PA, though

not going to go through this whole thread, but has anyone here ever heard of jinro chamisul soju? the Korean dude who owns the convenience store in my building gave me a bottle of this stuff today. I've never heard of it, but apparently there are a lot of drunks in South Korea, because this is the most popular spirit in the world. It's basically like a 40 proof rice vodka. almost no flavor. not really sure what to do with it.... i bought a thing of lemonade at 7-11, and we'll see how it goes.

Not a bad pour at all, I just don't like the semi-false advertising. WR builds themselves up to be a very small operation in Versailles, KY, which it is. What they don't say is that they blend their product with product outsourced from one of Louisville's largest distillieries, and it's over 80% the outsourced juice.

They just released a twice barrel bourbon, which is 100% made in Versailles (or so is my understanding). It goes for ~$75, which is about $25 too much, but is still pretty good.

They also have some limited releases every 24 months or so, and most are pretty good.

Soju (and the similar Japanese shochu) are usually drunk cold and neat, I think. There’s been an effort to “class up” those beverages in recent years, but historically they’ve been heavily consumed in Korea and Japan because they’re widely available and cheap. Think vodka in Russia during the Soviet days—powerful, ubiquitous, and inexpensive. I imagine you can also treat soju similar to vodka in mixed drinks.

This may be a "Captain Obvious"-like message, but I found out only recently:

If you happen to live in one of the many US states that prohibit import of alcohol (Pennsylvania is one of them), go check the site http://www.wine.com . There is a chance that, mysteriously, your state suddenly appears as "eligible."

This is how they outsmart "the man:"

A note about State Restrictions, our efforts and what you can do:
State laws on wine shipping are complex and under constant review, and we look forward to a day when all states open up to out-of-state retailers so we can offer you all our full assortment of products. In the meantime, we've opened a network of Wine.com warehouses in a number of states, giving us a local presence in those states. This enables us to legally ship wine to our customers in those states while also reducing the shipping time to get you your wine. Unfortunately, in some states not even that will suffice, so keep those letters and emails flowing to your state legislators!

Anyway - PA appears to be eligible (so does my state of AR), and the only states that seem to be still ineligible are:
GA,KY,ME,OK,UT

Wild Turkey Rare Breed is actually a blend of Wild Turkey whiskey of three different ages. I wany to say 4 year, 6 year, and 10 year, but I may not have that exactly right. Blending is becoming a lost art in American Whiskey.
