JS© wrote:interstorm wrote:...just reading into more of this. looks like there are 2 items out there regarding if this deal goes through:
1) flyers need to shed cap space
2) preds need to take on cap space
i almost wonder if the preds, while not really wanting to help philly out, take chris pronger's contract in exchange for yet another pick/player (basically philly saying, "i'll give you X (player/pick) if you take pronger -- you don't have to really give me anything (although it may take a 6th round pick or something to make it legit)". this then accomplishes both goals, especially if nashville DOESN'T put pronger on LTIR. he won't be playing a single game but his contract cap hit brings the team up some.
Don't think you can trade a player that is on injured reserve.
That's what I understood as well. Pronger would have to be cleared to play in order for Philly to trade him.

You may trade players on injured reserve (see: Theodore/Aebischer), but it involves the acquiring team signing off that the player does not have to pass a physical for the trade to be deemed valid. Injured reserve (long-term, or otherwise) does not exist in the offseason.

Anyone else think the rangers went ahead and traded for nash because they don't think nashville will match the offer sheet and weber will be a flyer next year?

Based on what they gave up, it looks more like Columbus just finally lowered the asking price into the range they wanted to play. Timing was coincidental. If they were making the move to compensate for Weber, you'd think they would have given up more.

@Cybulskishow: according to @DarrenDreger - Philly offered Read, Meszaros, a 1st, two 2nd's and a third for Shea Weber - Nashville declined

I'd want at least Brayden Schenn added to that equation.

I let out an audible expression of joy in my office when I found out. Problem didn't go over well with the Flyers fans here.
