Added the 7th dman for ya in case of injuries.
We joke but I can't imagine that crew being any worse than the one that played Philthy. I'd take'em.

You gotta get my boy Dumoulin in the top 4. Man deserves the minutes over Strait, and hes like 3 years older than Harrington.
In all seriousness though, in three years a backline of:
Letang - Despres
Morrow - Dumoulin
Harrington - Maata
Pouliot
Would be monsterous. Brooksie is on the decline and Martin's time is coming next offseason unless he has a revelation this season.

I really don't think Martin will be dealt at this point, but I think Colin Wilson would be fantastic on Sid's wing. Perfect compliment to Sid's game.

It would take a ton more than Martin to get Colin Wilson, but I agree he'd be awesome

I personally think harrington-strait would be a great shut down defensive pair against some of the top lines this year, but I'd have no problem going with strait-dumoulin, dumoulin-harrington. That's just a solid top six, though. I'd rather they just go ahead and trade letang, orpik, nisky, and martin to edmonton for hall and nuge. Get the wingers for the star centers- already have a top defense-

How about martin for hal gill and a 2nd rd pick? Nashville was obviously interested and we'd get a dman that is perfect for the new clutching and grabbing nhl.

Maybe they can swing a three team trade, sending their return from Nashville to another team for a Dman.

Hal Gill shouldn't be looked at as a guy who can log any more than 16 mins a game and certainly not the 25 Martin is capable of logging. There is no trade with Nashville involving Martin and receiving D back in return. They don't have D to give, we don't have D to give. End of story.

but i thought top 4 puck moving d-men were in such high demand, Isnt that why shero drafts them every year ? Isnt that why shero shelled out $5 million a year for five years for martin? if it is going to take a lot more than martin, i did throw tk in there, then that makes the martin signing that much worse. Maybe they should revise their draft stategy then and start drafting more forwards because they are not getting them in free agency and they do not have any to use as trade bait

We got serious unproven depth on defence. If you are a risk taker you could trade martin and lovejoy away and fill our D with Burtozzo and Strait.
Hornqvist, Erat or Kostitsen look decient, but don't know much about them other than their stats.
Glad i am not Shero, the idea is to make our eam better and i really don't think Shero is intrested in trading Martin away.

Hornqvist is good, but isn't he pretty much the Predators offense? Maybe they'd trade Erat, but I think they probably want to send prospects/picks the way of whoever they can get a dman from.

Back in the first week of free agency, Josh Yohe was tweeting about Paul Martin getting traded to Nashville if the Pens needed to clear more space for Parise and Suter. So he could very well be on Nashville's radar.

Martin a top 4 dman? On what team? Shouldn't a top 4 dman be able to actually defend?

If you don't think Martin is a top 4 guy on any team, you either don't watch much hockey, or are just irrational with hatred for the dude

I have a feeling that Letang - Despres are going to be the top pairing.
I'm not a big Martin guy but I think with him on the 2nd pairing with Martin - Orpik, american connection he'll have a bounce back year. Orpik as well I'm hoping.

In 13-14, I wouldn't be shocked to see:
Letang-Orpik-Niskanen-Morrow-Despres-Dumoulin-TBD
Does that include Martin?
I'm not sure, but I sure wouldn't be surprised to see him gone to make way for the kids and free up cap space.

Why would Martin be dealt at this point? Shero already moved Z. Unless another top 4 D man is coming back for Martin he wont be going anywhere. Shero wont be going into the season with 3 rookies on the blueline. Last year at this time many said Despres needed a few years of 'seasoning" in the "A", now they have roster spots locked up for Morrow, Dumoulin, etc.

I agree with the pairings. I think that is what ideal plan will be for the Pens. Assuming Despres is ready to play big minutes. I like Orpik/Martin together. Let Niskanen play with Engeland to round out the 6...

I've always seen Orpik and Martin on the left side. Does this matter that much to most defensemen? I would think they develop a comfort level on one side or the other, so does Orpik-Martin work?
