Not sure how i follow there, we only gave up a later round pick for early negotiating rights, i have no problem with that.

We trade a 3rd pick to PHX for Hamhuis not sure i would consider PHX a bitter rival

I still have to think that Michalek quietly requested the trade.
(I'm too lazt to dig up the quote, but I recall ZM saying that he was being expected to play a style that he was not comfortable with....This was right after their season ended.)
If needed, Shero could have sent him packing after making a big signing...there was no practical need to do it at that time.
Especially since be basically gave him away.

At the time I hated the trade of Michalek because we didn't get an NHLer back and I still don't like that.

Not really a horrible trade, but Ponikarovsky did jack here. I haven't followed enough of Caputi though to see how he's been doing, anyone know?

That trade was like the Kovalev trade. Give up nothing, expect little, hope for something. They got little from both of those deals.

I'd have to go with the Michalek trade as of now. The Pens gave up a top-4 d-man, who while under-performing, didn't have a horrible contract, and got a middling prospect and mid-round pick in return. The Wings didn't get much less when they traded Stuart to San Jose, and he was set to be a UFA.

It think it had to have been done at least in part to honor a request on Michalek's part to go back to Phoenix.

Yeah...a style with a minimal amount of defense...he was clearly uncomfortable with it.

Though it's actual damage was negligible, the Hamhuis trade annoyed me the most.

yeah, it's michalek. if nothing else, he was a phenomenal penalty killer. whether he didn't want to be here or the team didn't love him, he still would have been useful this year.

Agreed, but the space cleared will be there all season. Something magical may transpire - if not then all it did was create another hole to fill, but I will wait till the deadline to pass judgement!
