Official Fantasy Football 2012 Discussion Thread

Ok, I'll start it off because I have to name my keepers really soon and need advice.

I'm definitely keeping Brees (in our leagues scoring system qbs are worth a lot more than usual so he's a must keep).

Its a 2-keep league and I'm in-between keeping MJD or Larry Fitzgerald

Its a PPR league so boosts Fitz a little and this MJD hold-out thing is starting to scare the hell out of me

Also a little bit scorn because last year I kept Fitz over Megatron :( lol

My cop-out option is that you can trade your keepers for picks and such once keepers are made (so that person can have 3 keepers then), and I'm THINKING the MJD name will give me more in terms of that than Fitz... I just txted everyone in the league asking what they'd be willing to give up for him

Now that he's out of Nawleans and doesn't have a qb that throws to 52 different peeps, Meacham is gonna have a huge season. On top of that, Floyd sucks and gates is old and starting to wear down. Plus he's still on the board after the 1st 4-5 rounds. Giving you flexibility in your drafting strategy.

My bold prediction for the year (actually not sure if this is really bold... maybe semi-bold) is that Drew Brees will be this years #1 ranked fantasy player. The defense which was bad last year, is going to be miserable this year due to suspensions. I see the Saints being involved in a ton of 40-40 types games, shootouts. Brees will have a sick year.

MJD would definitely get you more in a trade, but if you don't go that route I'd definitely keep Fitz. I think Arizona is really starting to round out their offense. Wells was good last year and Williams looks promising at RB, so there isn't a black hole in the running game for defenses to ignore anymore, and after what I've seen of him in college I think Floyd will easily be the best WR from this draft class and will take a lot of double teams and attention away from Fitz. Kolb may not be the ideal QB but he should be able to get the ball to him, and if you keep him again next year they'll probably draft a better QB in 2013.

Plus, I'm just not big on MJD.

In general, I wouldn't worry about the holdout for MJD. The owner has a ton of money and no one else on the team is worth paying. He will get his money, it's just a matter of how much he'll get. If they don't sign him ASAP, they might as well pack their bags.

Fantasy football questions:

1) I really see the top 5 fairly clearly this year: Rodgers, Foster, Rice, McCoy, Megatron. Who should be the 6th pick?
2) Who is a good mid-round RB to target?
3) Which middle round QB will have the best year?
4) Who is your biggest sleeper?
5) Who is your biggest bust?

1) Depends on the league scoring. Based on the names listed, Brees is number 6. If the league is equal value for TDs for running, receiving, AND passing, Brees would be in top 5.

2) I'd look for Ahmad Bradshaw to have value for mid-round pick and I wouldn't sleep on McGahee either since defenses will be focused on Manning and John Fox loves to run. Mike Turner is another name that I could see falling but would be a mistake to let fall.

3) Josh Freeman or Sam Bradford (I like Freeman though with Jackson as a target this year)

4) (I would say Brandon Lloyd but not sure if you can consider him a sleeper, probably not with Brady at QB)
Therefore my answer is Brandon LaFell *I will add that this is somewhat biased being a Panthers fan

5) Because of injury potential: Andre Johnson/Ryan Matthews
Non Injury Bust: Dez Bryant and because that one might be a cop out answer, I'll also go with Dwayne Bowe.

*I'll add that I participate in a 14 team mix draft where 42 players are auction before the draft so my answers to numbers 2 and 3 are a result of the top 12-15 at QB and RB being gone before we get to the draft portion.

1. Jones-Drew or Brees. I know Jones-Drew is holding out and in a bad offense but he is the last elite RB after the ones you listed, big dropoff after him (except for AP who may miss time). And Brees is Brees. Depends whether you'd rather have the QB or RB. Personally I'd take MJD because of the previously stated dropoff in RB quality.

2. I don't know how far into the "mid-rounds" he'll fall but Jamaal Charles was an absolute beast before his injury last year. You can probably get him in the third round but he has first round pick upside. Michael Turner and Frank Gore are also names going lower than I think they should, they're not totally out of as yet.

3. As a Steelers fan I'm inclined to say Roethlisberger will have a great year; with a real O-line and a real offensive coordinator I think he's primed to have his best year yet. However his camp injuries and the Wallace holdout aren't promising but I'm inclined to think Wallace won't keep the holdout up and Ben will tough it out. Otherwise I think Schaub is going too low and Rivers will bounce back. Those three are guys outside the top ten QBs who I think could be must-starts by mid-season.

4. I mentioned him earlier but I'm huge on Jamaal Charles. I really just think he could finish the year as a top 3 RB. He's had time to heal from his injury too.

5. Ryan Mathews. He really hasn't shown me anything that says he's worthy of a top ten pick except that he was a first round draft pick. The exact same thing happened last year, all the "experts" tried to say you should draft him between 8-10 overall and he'd carry your team. Not gonna happen. He was alright last year and I'd draft him in the late second or early third if he were still there and most backs were gone but I'm steering clear of him as my top pick.

1. Brees or Brady can't go wrong with either.
2. Sproles and Shonn Green
3. Eli
4. Percy Harvin (not really a sleeper I suppose but has increased his yards every year and will get rushing yards as well)
5. Ryan Matthews, Darren McFadden, Vjax, Randy Moss

I don't think anyone going in the first round in virtuallly every draft is gonna be a sleeper.

In my leage we decided to do 1 keeper but it has to be a guy from Round 4 of last years draft on. My choices,

Julio Jones
Marques Colston
Torry Smith
Darren Sproles

Im having a tough time between Jones, Colston and Sproles

Hard question to answer without details like scoring format, where your draft position is, and how many teams.

I would say Colston on limited information because you should be able to draft better value running backs in first couple runs and I'll take a good Drew Brees target over a good Matty Ice target.
