This isn't really funny, but think about being at the game. This happens and the guys suddenly can't get up from the edge of the boards. Imagining the scenario playing out is kind of funny.

my solution: watch the game tape afterwards and fine the players who do it. and fine them hard. though would this need some sort of sign off from the NHLPA?

Player fines are negotiated as part of the CBA. My solution would be to heavily fine them and publicly announce the fines.

The article also mentions how players are embellishing having their stick slashed out of their hands. I don't think knocking the stick out of someones hands should be a penalty to begin with.
