Penguins grant unconditional release to Nick Petersen

Postby mikey287 on Tue Sep 11, 2012 6:16 pm

The Penguins placed Nick Petersen on unconditional waivers, which generally means (outside of the ordinary course buyouts window(s)) that he was granted a mutual release (see: LeClair, John). Petersen was dealing with some personal issues late last season as I understand it and his future is in question it seems. Petersen will clear waivers tomorrow and become an unrestricted free agent. I'm under the impression that this is a release and not a buyout, so I don't believe there will be any cap penalty but I'll try to get more details about it tomorrow...

Opens up a contract under the 50 man reserve limit. Clearly, Shero has a verbal agreement in place to sign Shane Doan. Clearly. :slug:

I'm expecting Lovejoy to slip through the waiver wire like a hot knife through butter.
It's just a matter of when.

I think you guys are quite wrong about Lovejoy and he doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as Nick Johnson.

Yeah, at least Nick Johnson had a full NHL season before turning 30...or whatever Lovejoy is...28...?

Anyway, Petersen cleared - of course - and has been released.
