Are You Ready for Some Football - Steelers/Raiders 2012

Postby blackjack68 on Sun Sep 23, 2012 8:31 am

Harrison, Troy and Mendy all out again.

Across the country.

At 4:25pm.

We should romp, BUT somehow, the Raiders always seem to play us tough.

Get through this and we get the Bye Week to get some guys healthy.

Here We Go Steelers!

This was amusing...albeit a bit off topic.

The Steelers often play down to the level of the opposition. There really are no soft touches in the NFL anymore. Teams find a way to play over their heads some of the time and if you bring your B or C game you can get your head handed to you. I'm among those who isn't anxious to see Mendenhall back. He's a slightly above average back. The Steelers' mediocre running game is from having only2 decent linemen.Foster,Starks and Colon aren't good run blockers. Having 2 strong inside runners in Dwyer and Redman will pay off this season by reducing the pass rush against Ben. I wish Haley would turn Ben loose in the no huddle.Letting teams substitute on defense really limits their offense IMO. We have a QB with ability and 8 years starting experience and we;re handcuffing him.

Another convincing win would be a "big win" going into the early bye week. All of the AFC North teams have a loss already. We'd keep pace, and with NE vs. Balt tonight, we may have a one-game lead. The Denver loss was disheartening but the NYJ win was encouraging. Let's show that the NYJ Stillers are the ones that can carry this team into the playoffs.

I was watching some NFL Countdown this morning, and they showed a number Sanchez errors that I think an elite QB could have taken advantage for big plays against us. That's my biggest concern -- our blitzing schemes are designed for bad QBs, and the Mannings of the NFL eat us alive. Regardless, Here We Go Stillers.

I don't over rate the Steelers;they have many warts. I'm referring when the Steelers play a bad team like the Raiders or when they play a horrid teams like last year's colts(who they ere lucky to beat).
If you're a legit contender you must beat up on the bottom feeders especially if you're in a tough division.

I've been thinking this too, even though I didn't see this specific video evidence. The Steelers are set up pretty well to beat defense-first, run-first teams with mediocre QBs ,which is probably why they've generally had the upper-hand against the Ravens. Especially without Harrison, the Steelers don't get consistent pressure without more exotic blitz schemes. Then, good QBs can diagnose the blitzes and find the right passes to take advantage of them.

This could be a trap game for the Steelers, flying out to west coast... bad team... etc etc.

That being said, the Steelers should win easily.

The only way the Steelers lose this game is the Raiders defense scores a couple times or the Raider fans start opening fire.
