Ebay sellers

Quick question. Anyone sell stuff on Ebay? Are there fees to pay on stuff you sell, and if so, how is it calculated?

Yes there is. Usually a fee from ebay and from paypal, both are percentages of the sale price I believe. I sold some stuff on ebay and had almost forgot about it then I get an email from them saying my bill for the month is arrived and I owed like 5 or 6 bucks.

The reason I ask, I was going to purchase something. I was negotiating via email and the guy told me he have ebay fees to pay, and if he lowered the price any further, he'd lose out on money because the fee was flat.

I was wondering if he was BSing me and I think he was becauce I can't see any reason the fee would be flat.

If it was a $100 purchase, would the fee be $20-25? Because that seems extremely high.

Thanks.

I just threw in what I wanted to pay and what he has listed, and the fee should be around $10.

There's insertion fees, usually less than a buck. There's final value fees that fireonice posted. Then PayPal fees. I just sold something for 29 and got 25.20 so I'm not sure how the PayPal fee is calculated but it would have been $ 3.80

I sell on eBay and just made a store, in fact (still very fledgling). You can consign it to me and I'll give you X percent of the sale, to save you the trouble of shipping and fees and the whole deal...

Spoiler:
the X is 0  :thumb:

Does paypal charge fees on everything now? I used it and ebay a lot way back in the day and only really had paypal fees if I was accepting a credit card payment. Now I only use paypal to make personal payments and I don't think there is a fee for that

I think they do.. I'm not sure though. I do remember, like you said though, that you could set your account to not accept credit card payments and avoid the fees if it was just checking account transfers. I bet that was included in Dodd Frank somewhere.

When sending cash as a "gift", no, there's no fee for that. At least, not the last several times I've done it.
