Is it, "staten island doesn't have generators and the marathon does"
Or, "staten island doesn't have generators BECAUSE the marathon does"

2 very very different statements

Beats me, I just responded with the first article I found.

My guess is that the generators are from a private company and are specifically for the marathon. I've never heard of diesel generators being used for homes during a widespread power outage. The article says it could power 400 homes, but their are thousands without power. Selecting a lucky 400 homes to be hooked up to a DG sounds asinine to me. I would imagine that DGs are already being used to power essential, rescue, and health services. People are just frustrated, angry, exhausted and scared, which leads to unfounded whining. With that being said, if I was in their position I'd be whining as well. Its suck city over there.

The people in trouble can say what they want. I won't judge them. The spectators being outraged at their TV are annoying though.

So now those water bottles and generators can go right back to the vendors' shelves.

Good point. I don't think the marathon had much of an adverse effect on relief efforts. Pretty much a PR move imo

Canceling the marathon has a negative net effect on New York and everyone else. But Facebook is happier I guess.

The idea that the marathon would improve the morale of the city seemed like a pretty specious argument.

Yeah, I also agree. I don't think the people on Staten Island give a flying **** about a bunch of runners flying in to do a marathon.

What a half-assed benefit "concert" for hurricane relief. Katrina got much more, for much less less damage.

That is one thing that irritates me. People keep lauding the president and bashing Bush. While Bush's response to Katrina was awful, the two presidents were dealing with two totally different storms.

Look closer...$60 billion.

And we get a measly 1 hour crap "benefit " on one major network vs. all the networks during Katrina.
