One day in Montreal - what to see there?

I'll be in Montreal soon. I'll have one free day there. What are the biggest city attractions? Cool restaurants? Etc.
(I'll be staying in one of the downtown hotels.)

Strip clubs are famous. But you are from Europe right? Probably not as appealing to you haha.

skating on the river was pretty cool, which is close to the old city also very cool.

Yeah, old is relative but it is still nice but touristy.

The botanical gardens is great, right by Stade Olympique which has the funicular up to the top (used to be the arm for the retractable roof) where you can see the view of the city. St. Joseph's Oratory is a nice building to tour, also has a nice view from the hill.

Dieu du Ciel for incredible creative microbrews that are finally available in the US but cost an arm and a leg here.

Get a smoked meat sandwich and poutine. Ask locals where the best are, not all smoked meat is created equal (ib4 twss).

See a lower level Junior game- I saw the AAA Valleyfield Braves once when I was up there. Something about the atmosphere in a small dirty arena in Canada....

What pghskins said. Old Montreal is cool as is botanical gardens. Depending on what you want to be near, Old Montreal is a good place to stay as well. Good reataurants all around. Mount Royal has a great view of the city and some nice walking trails. If you're a foodee, go to one of the markets. Atwater market is the one I've been too. Lots of good specialty meats and cheeses. Biodome is pretty cool. St. Catherine St is where you'll find lots of shopping as well as the strip clubs. Better off finding restaurants in Old Montreal though.

St. Catherine Street is odd. High end stores right beside strip joints. A real mishmash.

Have a buddy that went to college in upstate NY. He said they'd hire a bus and go to Canada during rush week and take all the new pledges. Make them drink a handle of cheap whiskey, and then take them to a Canadian strip club. But they'd tell the noobs that they had to change all their paper money for Loonies before hey went to the club..... so these 19-year old Yanks would be tipping dancers with coins. That made them super popular.

Easy availability of alcohol is always a selling point to someone who has lived in Pennsylvania all his life.
