Pitt Basketball 2012-13

Postby IanMoran on Sat Oct 27, 2012 10:41 am

So we won't flood up the NCAA thread

First game against IUP apparently didn't go that well

Pitt won 69-54
After the first half Pitt had only 21 points on 9-25

Starters:
Woodal- 16 pts, 7 assists
Robinson
Patterson
Zanna
Adams- 6 pts, 6 boards, 2 blocks

Off the bench numbers I heard:
Taylor- 9 points, 10 boards
Moore - 14 pts

Surprised Zeigler didn't get the start... hopefully that just means Robinson is the big surprise and not that Zeigler is disappointing

“We are trying to get our best defenders out there,” Dixon said. “Right now, I think they are the best two on the perimeter.”

Apparently Adams looked really strong on defense, but kind of weak in the post on offense

Kind of sad Taylor isn't starting in his senior year, but according to people I know who went they said he looked the best of any Pitt player

I think Taylor just doesn't have enough minutes in his knees and back to start. Dude's career has been a disappointment based on the high expectations heaped on him, but he's battled through constant injury.

Yea, tbh... I'm kind of worried Adams might be dissapointing as well. I think Birch was our best "BIG" recruit.. he just quit

From everything I've read and heard, all summer he tore up the summer leagues.

Its not worth worrying when they have bad games against crap teams. They always do that, especially early on. They'll play a halfway decent team in the ilk of RMU soon and just wipe the floor with them.

I asked Mike DeCourcy (College Hoops writer for the Sporting News) what his expectations were for Adams. Here is his response...

I think he'll come close to impacting Pitt in the way Cody Zeller did Indiana.

I take his comments with a grain of salt, because he is from Pittsburgh, so I think he is somewhat of a homer. Though everything I have been reading about Adams is very positive, especially in terms of how physically ready he is for Big East hoops. Birch, while very talented, was not ready for the style of basketball played in the BE (which is part of the reason he transferred to UNLV).

I don't think I called Adams a "bust." I'm excited to have him, just worried some expectations may be overblown... from what I've heard he's more of a defensive specialist right now, which is fine.. I'd rather have a great defender slowly develop his offensive game than the other way around

Maybe if his offensive game is slow to come around he won't leave after this year.

EDIT: leave for the draft, not UNLV like our last soft big man

chris jones is the most exciting player to me. pitt really hasnt had a player of his build/pedigree. most are tweeners and small big men. he is a legit slasher that can get to the rim and hopefully dixon will utilize him as such

Not meeting expectations....isn't that the definition of a bust?

No. The definition of a bust is:

noun: A failure; a flop

Not meeting expectations does not = failure or a flop.

You can be short of ones expectations (some people put unrealistic expectations on individuals), however that does not equate to failure.

So thanks to my cousin being a stud wrestler, we get 3 tix to all the basketball games the next 4 years. I'm pumped. I usually only get to a couple each year.

Thanks NAN... I'm not sure saying I think some of the "ONE AND DOWN / ELITE LEVEL PLAYER RIGHT AWAY" might be premature should be taken as "lololol, he said he's a bust!"

Anyways

GO Pitt tonight

Adams & Robinson both look really good. Adams is a definite shot changer in the middle which was sorely missed last year.
