I've had that Moosbacher as well and was similarly unimpressed.

I know it's a bit late in the season for it, but I had a Smuttynose pumpkin ale from a stash I forgot I had, and I really like it. It has amount of hops to balance out the sweetness of the pumpkin.

I've hard Barney Flats, but it was a long time ago, need to have again. Had one last week that I've now now forgotten the name of. Rogue is good. Any other favorites?

Southern Tier makes a good one

Generally not a Southern Tier fan, but their Oatmeal Stout and Creme Brulee Stout's are both excellent.

Had Black Boss Porter tonight. Very light in color for a porter... almost auburn. Licorice tone to it as well. Not my favorite.

Philly is arguably the best beer city in the country for craft. As for the limited founders, it's probably just as difficult to get in Philly as it is here in Pittsburgh but I'd think a place like Monks or Capones would have a lot of founders stuff, be it limited or year round. Good luck!

I said arguably - and personally it's EASILY the best craft city.

But since you questioned my logic: its the Only place outside of NorCal that gets Pliny the younger on release as well as constant barrels of Elder. Cantillon? Yep, all the time. Only place outside of Greensboro Bend that gets Hill Farmstead. Heady topper too. Good luck finding that outside of the cannery.

San Fran is probably the only city in the country that could compete with the distribution that Philly sees.

I live in Philly...UVM definitely has an argument to make. Not to mention close proximity to Troeg's, Victory, Dogfish Head, etc. For many other reasons, Philly is a beer nerd's paradise.

I don't think you can make a case for any city. It's a stupid thing to argue and even try to crown a "best place to get craft beer." So much craft is local that you're missing out if you only try what gets distributed to one city.

If you're looking for a lighter winter beer, try Bell's White Winter Ale. It's quite tasty.

My sister is bringing some Switchback Ale down from Vermont at Christmas. Apparently it's a very popular beer up there, but they've only ever had it on taps. They started bottling 22 oz bottles and she bought a case to bring. Anyone ever try it?

My parents visited from Vermont a couple weeks ago and brought Switchback. It's good, not sensational. I had Switchback IPA last year on tap when I was there, which was much better.

Parents also brought stuff from The Shed, Rock Art, and Long Trail. Vermont has some awesome craft brews. You should see if she can bring you some Heady Topper.
