Most people have heard of Koko, the gorilla who can speak about 1000 words in Sign Language, and understand about 2000 in English. What most people don’t know, however, is that Koko was an avid Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood fan. When Fred Rogers took a trip out to meet Koko for his show, not only did she immediately wrap her arms around him and embrace him, she did what she’d always seen him do onscreen: she proceeded to take his shoes off.

I want a new computer chair. Any ideas? I bought one for about $350 a couple weeks ago. Tried it for a week. It was big and thick and all leathery and so comfy, you could sleep on it. Fully adjustible, even the bulge for the lower back (lumbar support) would go in and out and get harder/softer. To watch TV, yes. But not good as a PC chair. Took it back.

sitting in one of those chairs everyday, I can confirm they are very good for long days at the computer.

I'll take a look at those chairs. I need one that has good support for my lower back and also one that has a lacking mechanism once you tilt back.

Wish I could try one of those at a store, but good to read they have an easy return policy.

If those are 1909–1982 pennies (which were 95% copper), then each one is worth around 2 cents in terms of melt value.

Separate them out and save them for the inevitable collapse of the U.S. dollar, after which people will want money that actually has inherent value.

Judge me if you will, but no, I’m not kidding.

I'd consider the opportunity cost of sorting them:
Either you spend the time or you pay someone to do it (through whatever means).

ie It's probably not worth your time or effort.

I don't mind spending money if it's for a good purpose. 40 bucks to try what I see is a highy regarded chair. I'm OK with that.

Most important thing is I find something I'm happy with. For example, I went to Staples and Office Max. Tried, 50-60 chairs overall in the last few weeks. Unhappy. Hehe. Maybe 3 chairs in Staples were tolerable. NONE in Office Max.

It's a lot easier to just dump them in the PNC coin counting machine :pop:

I probably wouldnt have to separate many of them; they were all rolled in the early 90s it would appear.

My mom made possibly the best chicken parm I've ever eaten. Gave me a big container with enough for about 6 big heroes. MMM. It's one of my favorite foods in this world.

Well, assuming you have $200 worth of pennies, and let’s say 95% of them are pre-1982. At a current melt value of 2.3 cents per penny, that $200 face value of pennies would be worth $460 in terms of melt value for the copper, or $260 extra dollars. If 95% of the pennies are real copper, that would mean a $247 difference between selling them for melt value and dumping them in the CoinStar. Is ~$250 worth your time to sort them?

At the moment, it's illegal to melt pennies, and while copper prices are high, they’re not moving as much as, say, silver or gold. There are people selling lots of copper pennies on Ebay for prices well in excess of their face values, however. Personally, I’d separate the pre-82 pennies from the rest and hang on to them.

To give some insight into just how much our currency has been inflated over the years, before 1964 dimes, quarters, half dollars, and dollars were made of an alloy of 90% silver and 10% copper. The amount of silver in a pre-64 dime is worth $2.40 at silver’s current spot price. A quarter is worth $5.99, a half dollar would be $11.98, and a Morgan or Peace silver dollar is worth $25.62. This is the value of the silver alone and ignores any numismatic or collector value. At the time all of those coins were minted, the silver content of each was obviously worth less than the face value of the coin. Since then, however, the value of the dollar has dropped so much that the value of the metal is way more than the coin’s face value.

I found a Canadian quarter in my coin jar (actually, it's not a jar but rather a silver-ish wine coaster we got as a wedding present).

Seriously, a wine coaster as a wedding present? For a couple who don't give a hoot for wine and anyway wouldn't use a friggin' coaster even if they did? I should melt that sucker down and see what comes out of it.

Anyway, I'm keeping the quarter because it makes me feel like I own a little piece of Canada.
