I think its total **** that these places are opening on Thanksgiving earlier and earlier.. sickens me. I wish people would not go so that the stores realize its not worth it to be open.

Why is it sickening?

I can understand opening early friday, but there is no reason any thing other than say hospitals and the like need to be open Thanksgiving day. None. It's sad the way the herds line up to rush through the doors for deals. Let people spend the day/evening with their family, at least way until Friday to start the sales. No reason to open up at 8PM on thanksgiving day....

Getting off at 2p thursday sounds like a good deal to me. Working black Friday? Most places tell you that's required in the interview

Oh I know that's the reason. Still irks me. People have no patience. Like I said .. Friday I understand opening early, but opening Thanksgiving day in the evening, sorry that's friggin lame.

I'm grateful I work for a company I have those days off. I've worked the past few holidays, though I was in a job where it was a necessity that provided life saving services, so I didn't mind.

Kmart, Walmart?.... no reason to be open. I wish people could just wait till friday. The population in general in this country becomes more pathetic each year.

If LITT is looking for a TV, I got a 39 inch Sanyo LCD 1080 TV from Walmart for $299. I love it and I've had no problems what so ever.

I went to Dick's a few times for Black Friday 2-3 years ago and it was never ridiculous. There was a "line" to get in but it was only maybe 20 people.

edit- Dick's also sent out a $25 off $100 coupon to most score card members, check your mail but YMMV

Is the Wii U the hot item this year? As in, if I find one, can I buy it and maybe make a couple bucks off reselling it?

Weird. Says it's $50 when I click on it which would make it $25 after the coupon code. And there's only two sizes left, so act fast!

whats also weird is once you switch the size to XL, the price changes, and then all sizes become available.

As a commissioned electronics salesman, I liked working Black Friday, but to put some things into perspective:

Last year many of our Black Friday prices went into effect that entire week. I was supposed to be off Wednesday night, but I made appointments with several potential customers to come in for their items that evening at 8pm. In one hour I made approximately $180 on around $4000 in overall sales. On Friday I worked from 4am until 8pmish, and I grossed around $25,000 in merchandise, and made $200, with most of that coming from a girl who was having a wall installation.

We were killed last year because we didn't open at midnight (or earlier). Our departments sales were down 36% from November 2010 to November 2011. Mostly from that day.

Why is it sickening?

Because its Thanksgiving and its a time to be with your family. Back in the day NOTHING was open on Thanksgiving.. now instead the rampant consumerism and current societal needs to have instant gratification for everything and the mega corporations shoving all this garbage at the masses year after year. People wonder why the world is going to **** and its partly because of societal norms and the lack of family and values as the sheep lap this crap up again and again.

But I digress. Back on topic

I find it abhorrent how many stores are opening Thanksgiving night. Even stupid ol' Tanger Outlet will open at 10PM Thanksgiving, and stay open all night.

I never saw the value in Black Friday shenanigans, as it's rare that I'm buying expensive electronics or things typically for sale that day. I really don't see the point in potentially ruining someone's holiday either.

I agree with the consensus that it's insane that stores are opening, and forcing their employees to work, on Thanksgiving Day.

Next the stores will be open on Christmas Day so everyone can return the crappy gifts they don't want or need and so the bargain shoppers can get their gift wrap and bows for 75% off. :face:
