If total HRR is 3.3 billion, 182 million is 5.5% of that, going to the owners.
If they can't accept that, then we're ****. There's no reason they shouldn't work with that.

In addition to revenue split and player contract rules, the sides need to work out how to pay for the damage caused by the lockout.

Since most of these people are Canadian, I see no need for them to skip a Thursday meeting.

TIME MACHINE
A 82 games season in 164 days sounds reasonable, a game every other day schedule!!! Won't need that time machine, if we can create a teleportation device to cut down on travel.

Chris Johnston @reporterchris
I'm told the NHLPA's proposal included player contract rights.
David Pagnotta @TheFourthPeriod
Between addressing player contracting issues and the core economics (moving to an HRR percentage base), the NHLPA took big steps today.
So aside from the financials sounding fair, it seems to be a fairly complete proposal. If nothing else, this is a big step in the right direction.

I read the players proposal added their own provision to eleimiate cap circomventing deals. I am sure the owners like that.

So, to review, NHLPA is prepared to go to 50-50 immediately, but wants $393M over four years as part of so-called "Make Whole."

I have no clue how NHL reacts but I suspect it will want to negotiate $182M difference on Make Whole and will continue to push on systems.

Its amazing what kind of progress can be made when the players take their heads out of their own collective rears.

Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun
So the difference in both Make Whole offers is the $182 M that Fehr cited

But the NHLPA offer, arguably for the first time, puts the two sides in what I would call the same universe. And that's a major step forward

To me, best omen is that NHL has yet to publicly respond and remained quiet.
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
The NHLPA breakdown of the $393M it is seeking for Make Whole is as follows: Year 1: 182M, Year 2: 128M, Year 3: 72M, Year 4: 11M.

Also in PA proposal: For on-ice discipline, appeal process to neutral arbitrator or panel of 3 arbitrators (one NHL, one NHLPA, one neutral)

NHLPA proposes elimination of re-entry waivers and the four-recall rule post trade deadline.

NHLPA change to AHL contracts is cap hit count on any player earning more than $1 million. But, would not count against HRR.
That's fair enough. It would let teams offer a one-way deal to a fringe guy without getting burned, but prevents teams from burying players in the AHL.

Agreed. At this point its too close to walk away. Stay locked in that room and don't come out until you have a deal.

So we can say goodbye to re-entry waivers, since both sides have targeted its elimination in their proposals. I don't see them getting rid of the four-recall rule completely but maybe extending it to allow more. I know some teams got into trouble with guys that were too hurt to play, but not hurt enough for IR, causing them to burn recalls.

Any news on the proposed length of the deal?

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
The NHLPA proposal on "cap benefit recapture" (anti-backdiving measure) only applies to new contracts and deals of 9 or more years.
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
NHL won't like that last one because it doesn't go after existing back-diving contracts.

As positive as this sounds, it sounds no different that the 50/50 split being gradually put in place. I am not a lawyer/accountant but from a layman that is what it seems. Constructive CBA wording. Not to be a negative nancy, but i won't be happy til the deal is signed.

182 million does not make it sound like they are close to anything.

Not quite. The Make Whole provision was something proposed by the NHL, who recently offered to fund it to the tune of $211M. The PA, in turn, has offered to agree to an immediate 50/50 split of HRR and asked that the NHL bump up Make Whole to $393M. The $182M difference amounts to $6.07M per team over the course of the 4 years, or $1.52M per year per team.
