I bought a pre-lit tree this year. My old tree needed replaced, and Target had a great sale on them.

Went up in a snap, looks really nice and just enough lights (100 lights for a 4 foot tree), and it comes with spare bulbs in case one goes out.

So far I'm happy, but's it's only been a day.

I put 800 on our seven footer yesterday....

Did it burst into flames yet?

The most lights I've put on a tree was 300 on a 6 ft.

we always put at LEAST 800 on our seven footer. it's probably closer to 1000. my mom makes me dad go out and buy more lights every year. he hates christmas.

Pre lit fake...we had our first Christmas in our new house last year and wanted to do a real tree when we got our own place, but decided to wait until kids are in the picture and can appreciate it. Not worth the work otherwise.

We were finally going to do a real tree this year, but then our plans changed and we'll be traveling during Xmas, so we went back to our pre-lit fake.

Fake-a-tola.

We had real ones when I was kid, and they were pretty cool. But fake is working pretty well now.

Is it common for a real tree to suck up a lot of water?

I've had them since I moved out on my own, but mostly they've been of the 4ft variety. This year's is closer to twice that and it sucked up about 32oz of water in a week.

Sounds about right. Mix in some ginger ale with the water.

Yeah we have 8 foot ceilings (I think?), possibly less, and I had to cut off about six inches off the top to fit the star in there. I don't think a fake tree would do anything for me....I love that pine smell hitting me when I walk in the door. You can't replicate that with a candle.

Meow - I just read online about that ginger ale thing...had absolutely no idea.

Picked up a hulk of a 7 footer yesterday at a lot. Had to negotiate the guy down in price (trees in downtown Chicago are not cheap!). Walked three blocks with it, and put it up last night. The fresh pine smell is not replicable.

I would love a real tree, but allergies and laminate flooring with 2 little kids would equal disaster. If as little as a tablespoon of water gets on a seam between two planks of flooring, it warps up.

Fake tree 4 life.

:D Every year we go to the same garden place that gets these awesome trees. Never had a lemon. You can pick up some real swags, garlands, potted mini trees, wreaths, all sorts of other Noelphernalia while you're at it. Some years I feel I have to be dragged into the holiday spirit, and I find that if I'm not in the spirit when I get there, then I'm in the spirit when I leave.

More than likely I will be at my parents' place for Christmas. Why do I have to have a tree as well? Just adds more work to do.
