There must be some missing trigger in the brain that prevents you from finding humour in something blatantly humorous.

If there is I sure am missing it.

I have around 450 movies in my collection, and I doubt 20 of them are comedies. I just don't find them funny. Things like Step Brothers, Dumb and Dumber, and Anchorman just don't make me laugh. Seinfeld and Saturday Night Live don't make me laugh either.

My favorite comedy is definitely Thank You for Smoking.

What are your thoughts on action movies? I wonder if there's just a pretty straight forward difference in taste, cause it sounds like your feelings on comedies are the same that my feeling is about action movies.

Coens or Tarantino or both?

I think they're both rated accurately if they're considered among the best modern filmmakers. You could make the argument Tarantino is slightly less original, but that shouldn't really take away from the overall quality of his films IMO.

tarantino makes tarantino movies, no matter the subject matter. its his double-edged sword (hattori hanzo?). if you like his brand of storytelling and style, youll generally like his movies (which i do). there was a story on reddit today that tarantino wanted to do casino royale, set in the 1950s in black and white. it piqued my curiosity, but for the wrong reasons. i dont think he could do a bond movie that would give the source material its due and proper. the coen brothers can take source material and blend the straight purpose with their own style and be more versatile than tarantino could, imo.

After saying I wasn't, I picked up batman rises on amazon for $10 after using some reward points. I enjoyed all of them in different ways and look forward to watching again.

Soo, I've never even seen the trailer for "Playing For Keeps," so I just assumed it was your average cookie cutter rom-com plot, but then after reading the plot on IMDb....

"A former sports star who's fallen on hard times starts coaching his son's soccer team as a way to get his life together. His attempts to become an adult are met with challenges from the attractive soccer moms who pursue him at every turn."

Has the psyche of the soccer mom ever really been legimitely explored in film before? Will this be the film to do it? This could be a game-changer. I've already pre-ordered my tickets.

Can't remember if I posted this or not, but watched "Seeking a Friend for the end of the world". Both my wife and I quite enjoyed it and I'll go as far as saying it was really great. Connie Britton and Rob Corrdry should have a spin off movie based on their family in the flick, they were hilarious. I wasn't sure how Steve Carroll and Kiera Knightly would work out together, but it was a good match

Saving Private Ryan
Terminator 2

Some others I really like are Benjamin Button, Back to the Future, Lord of the Rings, The Departed, Spy Game, The Rocketeer, Glory, Star Wars, The Avengers, Gladiator, Drive, Jurassic Park.

I used to really like movies like The Fast and the Furious but my tolerance for them has gone way down.

There are plenty of action movies I liked when I was younger that I am pretty bored by now.

Can somebody please explain to me why everyone considers the Big Lebowski as a comedy classic? I thought it was terrible. I've seen it multiple times and still just find it shallow and pedantic.

Because walter sobchak is one of the greatest characters in a comedy movie...ever probably.

Re: Star Wars... I saw the originals when I was a kid, but was never super into them. I had also never seen the prequels. A month or so back I decided to watch the movies again. I followed one site's suggested order which was 4, 5, 2, 3, 6. Yeah 1 is missing.

What I found was that the original trilogy was "fun". Will never have the same connection some do, but I could certainly watch them any time.

The prequels were kind of a mess and bored me greatly at times. I did enjoy the latter part of the Clone Wars and some of Revenge of the Sith, but I didn't really feel any need to ever watch them again.

I really have no desire to watch the Phantom Menace. Any reason that I should?

I've been thinking a lot about the Star Wars prequels recently and heres my list of biggest problems

Aside from the point that the prequels are just crap movies (Ep III being passable at best), the biggest problem I have can be summed up in one word.

Midi-chlorians.

It took the mystical powers of the Force and the philosophical undercurrents of the potential of the human spirit and turned into a biology class. It was a hugely disappointing creative choice, because if the movies were as they were with no mention of midi-cholorians, then you're just left with three terrible films. But by changing the fundamental nature of the Force, Lucas actually destroyed the mythos of the original trilogy and and the entire Star Wars universe is diminished.

-exactly whats wrong with the empire? it seems terrible in the original movies but was it really? other than the occasional destruction of a planet, what was different about the empire than how things were before?

In the days of the Old Republic, things were relaxed and groovy. Once Palpatine ascended to power as the Emperor, it turned the galaxy in to one really big fascist dictatorship.
