The guy supposedly is a photographer for the NYTimes, and he's quoted as saying he was too far away to help. Which if its a professional camera, is very plausible.
I don't know one way or the other as I wasn't there.

I can't speak to the actions or inactions of anyone at the scene, but publishing the photo was pathetically low, even for the standards of the NY Post.

The headline is even worse than the photo.

Plus it's a still shot, the train was probably moving pretty freaking fast, the beginning of the train ends up quite far past.

Still running the photo was awful.

The photographer may be telling the truth, but he did make the decision to sell his photo to the NY Post, basically making a buck off of someone's tragic death. And I read somewhere today (sorry, no link) that he would only talk to CNN about the story if they were willing to pay him (which they weren't). Scum, in my book.

My understanding is that it was a cell phone camera shot. (not sure on that, tho) That he is a professional photographer is just happenstance.

but is there a cell phone capable of making repeated flash that would "warn' the driver? I was always thinking he had one of those big papparazzi cameras with the big flash bulbs. But why he would have that in the subway, i dunno.

He said in some interview that he was 150 feet away and was snapping pictures as he was running toward the guy but was too far away to help.

Agreed. I questioned his motives earlier in this thread.
