I'm more of a Biff Bang Pow! fan, when it comes to ultra-wimpy Brit pop:

I didn't listen to Belle and Sebastian until Magnet released their top 60 albums of their first ten years. I was taken aback by how soft and low volume it was. But it's catchy so I was immediately a fan.

Been listening and nodding to golden age hip hop all day. It's still the golden age.

Jazz composer and pianist Dave Brubeck, whose pioneering style in pieces such as "Take Five" caught listeners' ears with exotic, challenging rhythms, has died. He was 91.

Very sad to hear about Brubeck. Huge fan. Dad has most of his 50s and 60s stuff on original vinyl, and we chill out and listen to it all the time.

Trying to think of the remaining jazz greats that are still alive. Sonny Rollins, Quincy Jones, Kenny Burrell...who else?

I should have clarified - jazz greats from the golden era - 50s and 60s. Tyner is close, but the Marsalises are a bit young (but still carrying on the traditions, which is important).

I've seen a lot of live music in my time, but not really any jazz luminaries. It begins and ends with Sun Ra (completely fantastic show) and Sonny Sharrock. Sonny was pretty obscure, but man could he play the guitar.

Agreed. I don't even like Wynton. Tyner does qualify, imho.

He died in the mid 90s.

Larry Coryell, John McLaughlin, Al Dimeola, John Schofield... just to name a few Guitarists.

They're still going pretty strong, but over the next ten years or so, i think they'll be some attrition. (unfortunately)
