They want to be playing around January 1st if they intended to have ~50 game schedule. Back off 10 days for camp and you are at ~Dec 21st or so. Plenty of time to stop and restart.

I guess I'm not sure what you mean by "break down" and "restart" then. It seems to me the ball is in play now and they are either going to run with it or drop it. Just my perception.

I can see it going back and forth for another day, but if they got the core stuff figured out, i would guess they are just figuring out minor issues that they just can't agree upon.
I get a feeling the Podium will be used at some point, in a positive way.

I wish there'd be a little less talk about how the Penguins single-handedly saved the season.

especially since we don't have a season... yet!

I wouldn't care who was the voice of the reason to get the sides closer. Sometimes it can be just a different voice.

http://www.thestar.com/sports/hockey/nh ... vailed-coxHow close are they heading into a third day of bargaining? Well, according to a report by Sportsnet.ca writer Michael Grange, the league has raised the amount of “make whole” money it is will to throw in the pot to $300 million from $211 million, essentially meeting the players halfway as the two sides try to develop a formula that will transition both to a 50-50 split on revenue.
The six owners in the meeting agreed to accept the NHLPA’s position to keep rules on free agency and arbitration rights the same as they were in the old CBA. The league remained steadfast on a five-year contract limit with no more than a 5 per cent variance in any year, but did suggest a free agent re-signing with his old team could sign for as long as seven years.
Also, the owners want a 10-year collective bargaining agreement, according to the Sportsnet.ca report. The players want a much shorter term.
“There are critical open issues between the two parties,” said Daly after the meetings ended.

Yes, exactly. Would we really care if it was the Jets' owner or the Flames' owner or even Jacobs who get things done as long as they
are getting done? Outside of Pittsburgh, the perception of Burkle or Crosby is not going to change one iota. Except maybe that some people will hate Crosby even more, I guess.

I find it interesting that some of the details from these latest negotiations are leaking out. I wonder if this is more PR from the league as the talks are stalling.

Agreed, it was great that Burkle stepped in and got credit, same with crosby.
But now it's starting to seem forced. Who cares who else showed up now.
The accomplishments need to be made in those meetings

Dreger tweeted: @DarrenDreger: Owners-players only format has been terminated. PA insists the room is open for ongoing negotiations. Not surprised.

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
I wouldn't try to predict how things go today but player mood last night was pretty dark. But it's emotional process. See what today brings.
Mood was dark? Oh...
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
PA doesn't like 5 yr term limits on contracts or 10 yr term of CBA or fact that Make Whole bump to $300M is tied to accepting 10 yr CBA.
