I suppose it makes sense, and it gives smaller nations an opportunity to host big games.

BTW, anyone see the goal the Brazilian from Cluj scored against ManU yesterday? Jeezus, what a strike.

Watching the replay of spurs/panathanaikos, and I have to ask, why the hell did freidel retire from the national team when he had so much left in the tank? He's still better than Keller ever was, he's keeping France's keeper on the bench, and he'd probably still challenge Howard for the top spot on the team today. Seriously, he retired like 10 years ago. He at least should have played in '06.

It's not a bad idea, I guess. No need to erect ever more big arenas that are not going to sold out ever again after the tournament is done.

Beautiful dive by Santi Cazorla to draw a penalty. Zero contact whatsoever and he went down and got the call. Ashley Young would be impressed.

Well that penalty was legitimate, if you ignore Chamberlain shoving his man to the ground first. I guess the EPL doesn't want Arsene to get fired just yet.

Did Tevez really get Rafael there? And if he did, that has to be a yellow?

A picture highlighting some of the coins on the pitch thrown at Rio Ferdinand & the other United players. Consider that this is just one small frame, and these are what have already hit the ground. More were thrown (throughout the game; apparently Rooney was also hit, but did not bleed from it).

Arsenal lost today to Bradford City in the Carl... "Capital One" Cup.

League Two Bradford beat Arsenal, who played Cazorla, Podolski, Wilshere, Vermaelan, and Sagna.

Included in the game is this sort of miss from Gervinho.

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-12-1 ... -team.html

Manchester City, the English Premier League team owned by Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is close to being awarded the Major League Soccer expansion franchise in Queens, New York, for a record $100 million, three people with direct knowledge of the talks said.
The team would be known as the New York City Football Club and has contacted former England national team captain David Beckham about a role, two of the people said. Manchester City will explore other leagues around the world, seeking a way to expand its brand, two of the people said.

According to Mark Halsey, not only was this not a bookable offense, it wasn't a foul.
