All right, I got a ton of work to do and I'm sick, so I'm going to make this quick.

Pick #72

Defenseman - #7 Russ Anderson

Image

Steady, stay at home D for my team. Played with Ron Stackhouse.

Pick #73

Defenseman - #7 Rod Buskas

Image

Added toughness on the blueline.

I changed my mind again and instead of taking another LW, I pick:

Bryan Hextall Jr, C

Image

A tough, gritty center with some offensive flair to boot, he is the son of HHOFer Bryan Sr and also the father of long-time Flyers goalie Ron. Hextall toiled for years in the AHL and the WHL, before joining the Penguins as a 28-year-old and enjoyed five productive seasons in the NHL. All told, he collected 71 G, 115 A, and countless fighting majors in 335 GP for Pittsburgh.

A couple of depth defensive guys there, would make a solid bottom pairing I suppose. Kind of a Melichar-Scuderi pairing if those two got together. Not a lot of puck skills about, really, just not a lot happening. Which is just fine for a third pairing with that intention. Not terrific, not the best players available, but solid depth.

Bryan Hextall, yeah, if we never saw him play, we could look right at his son and get a glimpse. Very annoying player was Bryan Hextall, Jr. - probably could have carved out a little better career if he focused on becoming a checker, but alas, he did not. Agitator with some offensive ability. Let's see how that line comes together.

Damn, I was hoping to get the young Hextall as a 4th liner.

With that 75th pick in the draft, Muck, Grind and Repeat is proud to select, from Ellesmere, England, Peter Lee

Image

What a lid. Played with Greg Malone and Rod Schutt. Good on the powerplay. Potted 30 goals twice in a Pens uni. Was in the Pierre Larouche trade.

Was wondering if anyone would pick him. He and Stackhouse formed a heck of a pairing for a couple years in the late 70's.

Was also surprised Stackhouse went in the 4th round, not that he wasn't any good (he was), people just thought he was lousy because he didn't hit much.

Alright, I don't have my stuff right now (on mobile, just got back in Pittsburgh), but I'm pretty sure I'm taking Vic Hadfield, FWD (pretty sure he was listed as a winger).

He came to the Pens in the late 60's after a long career with NYR and still managed to put up 2 years of 30-goal seasons. At this point, the fact that a 2 time 30 goal scorer with the Pens is available is too much for me to pass up.

With the 78th Pick in the LGP Draft, the Degloving Kings are proud to select from Windsor, Ontario:

LW Patrick Boutette

Image

A good passer that amassed 216 points over his career with the Penguins. He would combine well with Larouche on my second line to shape a solid second line.

With the 79th pick in the LGP Draft, the Degloving Kings are proud to select from Lyodminster, Saskatchewan:

RW Colby "The Nose" Armstrong

Image

A gritty hockey player that was not afraid of the corners and was capable of scoring on occasion he is capable of playing both 2nd or 3rd line hockey, the PK, and any number of situations that could arise. A pest that was not afraid to face the music. I am glad that he is joining my team.

With the 80th overall pick, I'd like to select Mark Eaton

Very underrated player, in my opinion. Great on the PK, knows when to jump into the play, good shot-blocker. Makes good decisions with the puck and is very sound positionally.

Whew, for some reason I could only see up till round 15 or 16 until just right now...

OK, I think this is the proper time to select The Ol' 29'er, Phil Bourque.

A longshot to make the NHL, found a niche on the successful Pens teams of the late 80's-early 90's as a third line winger with good straight line speed who could muck it up in the corners, score goals (22 in 89-90, 20 in 90-91), and even play D in a pinch (was actually brought through the Pens minor league system as a defenseman, but was converted to a winger because he loved to bang bodies). Number 29 in your programs, number 1 in your hearts!

I knew it was. I just wasn't sure how I was going to pick because, as noted above, I was confused because the Google doc wouldn't load past round 15 or 16 for me.

Sorry, just making sure. We had the incident earlier in the draft where it happened and I was just making sure.

Good looking.

I also misspoke on Hadfield. He was with the Pens from 1974 to 1977 (played 9 games before retiring). See what happens when you don't have your notes?
