They're already up to 116, then have arbitration hearings with Scherzer, Jackson, Fister, Avila and Porcello. They have about 20 coming off the books next year, but those above mentioned guys are going to get really expensive really soon.

Cabrera is signed for a while, Verlander's will probably get a longer commitment, but shouldn't see a huge salary increase over the 20 he's making now.

Porcello will be gone.

I assume this isnt a minority opinion, but the Dickey trade was definitely smart on their part. Both long term and short term.

For sure, hard to see the Mets competing in that division much in the near future. Their window seems kind of similar to Pirates', they need Harvey and Wheeler to anchor be dual aces and anchor the rotation, like the Pirates need Cole and Taillon to do the same to actually compete.

Toronto sure gutted their farm system, but they had to revamp that rotation, cause they seem to have a competitive lineup (atleast they hit a ton of HR) and now a legit leadoff hitter.

I could be wrong, but it would not surprise me at all to see a significant regression from Dickey next year. Obviously he probably won't have a Cy Young season again, but it wouldn't shock me if he falls back even further than that.

I have no idea what to expect of him. He's been excellent the last three years, I probably wouldn't have traded a franchise catcher for 3 years of him though.

Agree. I wouldn't be shocked by any type of season from him next year.

I think they both got what they needed. Good trade for both sides.

The Astros signed Jose Veras to be their closer. Pittsburgh fans, it could be worse.

We were the Astros many times over the years. It was worse. Just not at the present period in time.

I can't wait for the reactions here when J-Truth racks up 54 saves and a 0.93 ERA.

Pretty much always have a competent closer though. Certainly the past decade

Anyone hear about the thing with Andruw Jones and his wife? Maybe its because I like the guy but something is missing in the story. He drunkenly "drags her down the stairs" by her ankle got on top of her and told her that he wanted to kill her. Then she somehow managed to get away from this 6'2 220 lb guy and she has injuries only to her neck, and he is then found later by police sleeping in his clothes confused about what happened. The only thing that makes sense in all of it is that she is filing for divorce with no mention of this attack and is trying to get the prenuptial agreement voided.

Baseball to test for HGH in 2013:

"Major League Baseball and the players' association have reached an agreement to expand the sport's drug program to include random in-season blood testing for human growth hormone and a new test devised to catch players using testosterone."

Justin Upton turned down a deal that would've sent him to Seattle.. Arizona would've received Taijuan Walker, Nick Franklin (a minor league 2b) and 2 relievers. While Walker would be a good get that doesn't seem like a stellar return overall.
