Wasn't he a Pittsburgh native? (I think I remember something about that)

Edit: Nope Wisc. Native... somehow I thought there was some kind of Pitttsburgh connection... I guess not

Connection is with Howland / Dixon

http://www.post-gazette.com/stories/spo ... nd-664840/

Dixon's has been quoted as saying he had a bigger impact on Pitt's current program than any other man (do to how much both him / Howland apparently got from him)

Thank you, my research turned up the same info. I knew somewhere there was a nod to Pittsburgh. Good stuff!! Thanks!

PC, DePaul, St. John's, Seton Hall, Villanova, Georgetown, and Marquette may leave Big East. Rumored to possibly join Xavier, Dayton, and Butler in a mostly Catholic (Butler's not) conference.

Would be a solid basketball conference. It just cracks me up how those 7 schools are jumping ship, yet it was there actions that put the Big East in this mess.

Couple of great games today.

I know it's not Indiana, Kentucky, or Kansas, but Fordam defeating Pronceton was a great game as well.

The Barclays center was completely empty though... Sorry to see that.

Butler has some pieces, but they're not without flaws. They rely on Rotnei Clarke for way too much of their offense, and he'll have some off nights. Freshman Kellen Dunham just doesn't like physical basketball. He's a 96% ft shooter, but he can be taken out of the offense too easily. The best ball handler is probably Roosevelt Jones (who sometimes plays the 4), but he's only a 45% ft shooter and it's hard to play him late in games. Thus, Butler is vulnerable to a press. Andrew Smith at the five is much improved, but still lacks a physical presence and my buddies and I joke that he's in foul trouble starting with the national anthem. Khyle Marshall is a very good power forward, who could probably play in any style or any conference. I see Butler probably 4th or 5th in the A-10, but with a good recruiting class coming in next year I think the program is on the rise.

According to the refs, that didn't beat the clock.

Is the NCAA like the NBA, where the only way it counts under 0.2 seconds is if it's a lay-up or tip-in (does that rule exist anymore?)?

That's cool MRandall. That rule definitely makes sense since its inbounding plays.

I'll admit all I have to go on is the still frame. I have 0 clue to what the rule actually is on the play being discussed.

That only applies on inbounds plays where a guy catches and shoots. And it's an NBA rule.

Right. They say off an inbounds pass, you need more than .2 to catch the ball and get a shot off. The only way to score here is to lob it towards the basket and tip it in. If you started the possession with 30 seconds on the clock, but got your shot of with .01 left, it counts.

Nope, it's across the board...college and high school as well. Doesn't apply in this case as it was a normal play and not an inbounds play.

HORRENDOUS call. I was watching the game last night and on live speed, you can't tell but how the refs can look at that replay and not realize that in one frame, the ball is barely touching his fingertips with the red light off and in the next frame, the ball is out of his hands and the red light is on. Pretty cut & dry. Doesn't excuse the Buffs for yakking on that lead but still, they won the game. Then, the Pac-12 head of officials comes out with a statement today saying that he agreed with the call. :face: Also, the monitor at the scorer's table was standard def and not HD, which probably led to enough of a blur that the refs couldn't tell. But if they called it good on the floor, then it wouldn't have been enough to overturn.

Tough week for officials when you add this disaster to the clowns in the UCONN-Marquette game starting overtime with the teams going the wrong way and UCONN getting goaltended. Refs realized they screwed up, then took the points off the board and gave Marquette the ball, which again was wrong. Though, admittedly, I'd have had it wrong too and had to scurry to my rule book to get the exact wording of it. Then, it made sense.

Great job by the Mountaineers tonight. They go into Austin Texas and get an overtime win against the Longhorns 57-54.
