Ok, after watching a few chikara matches on youtube last night, I decided that I'm gonna get totally in to it. Its really REALLY good wrestling, mixed with cartoonish silliness... For example,in one match, the wrestlers did a series of moves entirely in slow motion, which was accompanied by slow motion announcing, and the fans cheering in slow motion. It was awesome.

plus El Generico sometimes wrestles there,.and he's probably my favorite wrestler right now.

Yeah, it really is a lot of fun. Most fun I've had watching wrestling since I got into All Japan back in like 1999, or ECW back in 95 or 96.

It'd be really easy to dismiss this stuff as just silly nonsense, but the actual quality of the matches are like INSANELY good. They just happen to feature random dance offs, or people in ant costumes selling explosions from invisible grenades.

I used a Christmas gift card to buy best of 2010 and best of 2011 on DVD last night. I'll let you guys know how they are when they show up.

Is this the same federation that had a blowup doll as one of their wrestlers? lol

It was still better than a divas match.

that was the DDT promotion out of japan. Chikara is American, and based out of Philly.

Does anyone else listen to Colt Cabana's Art of Wrestling podcast? It's phenomenal. I started a few months ago and have almost caught up on all 125 episodes.

Watched the live Smackdown show. As expected, it came across really good on TV as well. Lawler is obviously the weak link in the announcing team. They sounded great between JBL/Cole/Matthews and really makes the last two Lawler performances (TLC and RAW) look even worse. If it keeps going like this I might start just watching Smackdown only.

Ok, I'm now realizing that the 2 DVD sets I bought are 3 disc sets so I have 6 2 hour discs to get through. Might take me awhile. So far, so good.

ok... Chikara best of 2011 is done. wow. so much good stuff in here. i'm really looking forward to diving into the best of 2010, but i need to take a break. apparently, the biggest angle of 2010 was Claudio Castagoli, who is Antonio Cesaro in WWE, stealing an artifact that grants its owner mind control powers from the face of the company, a guy named Ultramantis Black, who's gimmick is that he's a big evil magic bug. i might be totally wrong on that as im kind of piecing it together after the fact, but i think i'm pretty close.

this really reminds me of ECW circa 1996, where the quality of wrestling was really good, but it was really easy to focus on people diving through tables or hitting eachother with chairs. Chikara is like that, but instead of the violence, it has family friendly goofy stuff. sorry if im being annoying with this... it's just really exciting for me when i get in to new stuff.

i recommend checking anything out on youtube, and their DVDs are very reasonably priced at chikarapro.com. Today was the most fun i've had watching wrestling in at least 10 years.
