2012-2013 Winter weather thread

So any guess on when the first big one hits Western PA? It's been a very mild and wet winter (meteorologically speaking) thus far. In fact, I don't ever remember having this much rain in December. Hopefully the big one hits soon, I'm itching to go skiing.

I'm fairly certain that the three inches of snow we got outside of Philly a couple weeks ago is more than Altoona and similar locations have received thus far.

I know in State College we got a little dusting the one day that melted by noon. That's about it.

It's windy and there are huge lakes out here, but I don't know that anything will really stick... probably just enough to make the sidewalks treacherous.

I hope soon, just got the plow for my quad yesterday and going to bolt it on this weekend.

It's almost like they're trying to turn winter storm season into hurricane season. I can't blame them, it'll make things more interesting. Who says, hey remember that storm in the summer of 2005? No one, they all say, hey remember hurricane Katrina?

Yeah, this winter in Pgh has been pretty boring so far. I want some snow.

I think back in October, Jeff Rosella (sp?) from KDKA released his long term winter forecast. He said he expected a pretty mild November and December, but with snow picking up in January, and having a lot of snow hit in February, more than a typical February.

I know that is all just a guess, but he seemed to think the winter weather would not come until later in the season, but when it did come, it would be heavier than normal later in the season.

I just want some snow this weekend so we can have some snow for Christmas.

Snow is great, but slush sucks more than snow is good. I'd be thrilled with another winter like last year.

I think winter should actually begin at the halfway point between the Autum equinox and winter solstice and then end on the halfway point between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. That is the period where the Northern Hemisphere experiences the least amount of sunlight.
