Am I imagining things, or were people like honestly freaked out about this? I have pretty explicit memories of people anticipating the end of the world.....but I'm not trusting my memory right now because I think I imagined the idea of a circle urinal trough.

Nope people were actually freaking out about things. People built bomb shelters, bought can goods and guns to prepare themselves for the end.

I laugh at all of those people. People were saying the same things about how Y2K was going to effect the world and absolutely nothing came out of it.

I'm sure there are people freaking out, but honestly, I haven't heard too many stories of people going ape **** and lines at grocery stores or anything.

The History channel and those other types of channels took advantage by making a lot of "end of the world" shows and documentaries, but I watched a lot of them. That is a ratings grab.

Did the Mayans factor in leap years, which weren't even in place until many many years after their civilization? Basically, shouldn't the apocalypse have taken place months ago?

And isn't it true that because of discrepancies between the Mayan and Gregorian calendars that 12/21/12 was actually like six or seven years ago by their reckoning? (Don't know if it was posted earlier in the thread; kinda surprised we're still here, so I didn't bother reading the whole thing.)
