So that one employee I have that always calls out called out again last night. I was going through my payroll and attendance records to get the number of times she missed a shift.

What do you guys think an excessive number of call outs is for a year? 5? 10?

Spoiler:
she's missed 24 days in 2012.

I would have got rid of her 10-15 times ago.. 1 a month/avg is excessive IMO. Have you written her up and documented that this is a problem?

One of my coworkers in my old position (help desk style environment) called off 18 times in a 3 month period, sometimes citing "his wife had a headache" and "his sleep apnea machine quit working"

No it's all call outs. She has been written up for it. I wanted to get rid of her like 6 months ago, but every time we have enough staff where I can replace her hours, somebody else does something, like yelling at a tenant, or getting caught sleeping, and they need to be fired first. Right now, I can't fire her because I'm already short one person, and the dude who has called out 6 times in his first month needs to go before she does.

And my hr department sucks, so it takes weeks to get people in here to train. it's just a mess.

Trojan-horse therapy 'completely eliminates' cancer in mice
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-20795977

At the end of the 40-day study, all the mice who were given the Trojan treatment were still alive and had no signs of tumours.

I have tried to balance out the ordinary bad luck things that happen to me for now, as prayers for all the people, dead and living, affected by the CT shootings.
I think, is this really as bad as burying a child of six or seven? During Christmas, it was just about seeing my family. And Christmas cookies, of course. :D

A crucial problem with cancer therapy is targeting specific cells and the delivery system. I think this is big news.
