I always have the feeling that it's this way with a lot of players. Is it the coaching or what's going on?

I wouldn't say he "went crazy." He just isn't a very good player, had an average run in Baltimore.

.268/.342/.435. Compared to what he did in Pittsburgh, he was Babe Ruth, but he wasn't exactly Jose Bautista 2.0.

He'd probably still be a pirate if he put up a .777 OPS here

Or a Brave if he did the same in Atlanta.

He got a one year deal after this season at a very modest raise, don't think anyone believes his production is sustainable over a full season.

Well, yes, because then he'd have been competent with the Bucs. He was well south of competent, and Hurdle was going to keep sending him up to fail unless NH took McLouth away from him. We saw this pattern repeat itself through the season with Bedard, Juan Cruz, Qualls and Carcass.

Rob Biertempfel ‏@BiertempfelTrib
LHP Francisco Liriano injured right arm in Dec. #Pirates continue to talk to agent, but no deal imminent

So we didn't even really sign him yet and he's hurt. Pirates pitching going to be a whole bunch of suck this year.
