Its been known that they were putting it to another vote since 4:15 or so, i heard about it as i got in my car leaving work, so that article doesn't really mean anything. That said, that tweet doesn't really mean anything either.

I've only seen HockeyyyyyyyInsiderrrrr say a deal will be done before Jan. 11

How did the salary variance rule get to 30 percent all of a sudden?

The NHLPA wants Crosby's contract to be the standard. That is why you suddenly see that. NHL gave in on that front.
