2 Buyouts under the new CBA
Did Paul Martin play his last game in a Penguins uniform last season?

Pens will have $11.7 mil worth of cap space next year, and would be under it by $4 mil if they spent this year's cap number.
They don't need to buy anyone out.

Yeah, i don't get why people think the Pens have to buy ANYONE out. Shero has this team set up for every possible scenario involving the cap.
Sure, they have two at their disposal now but the fact that they don't have to gives them incredible flexibility. Geno is now Shero's top priority along with a winger for the rest of Sid's career.

It's not about the money. It's about getting rid of an awful player that we're obligated to play because of the money he's being paid.

Don't think teams can use the buyouts until after June so he's around unless traded.
Also, my 2 bold predictions for this shortened season is Paul Martin will be beloved by the time this season is done, and the Vokoun sign and trade will be even more of a great move than it already was.

I thought the buyouts weren't till after this coming season?
From TSN...
http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=412844- Each team will be allowed two amnesty buyouts that can be used to terminate contracts after this season and next season. The buyouts will count against the players' overall share in revenues, but not the team's salary cap.

When Martin plays well, he plays really well. And since he can only do this for 40-50 games a year, he could be a super star in this shortened season if he banked all his good days.

Yeah, get all these top-4 d-men out of the way with a buyout that can't take place until after the season...the sky is the limit for fringe NHLers like Deryk Engelland!
I'm with Gaucho...

Mentioned this in my unheralded return. Basically, if you think Martin was bad in a top 4 role, you'd freak outover what would happen if one of the other guys in the system got those minutes. Despres should be a fit there at some point, but if he (or anyone else they have) plays top 4 this year, I believe it would be a LONG season. The problem with thinking someone else couldn't be worse is that you're often proven wrong.

Since we're talking about D here....
I'm not too excited about another playoff "run"

with Engelland and Lovejoy both in the lineup.
I hope that Shero plans to bring in another experienced professional before whatever passes as the trade deadline.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but Shero has about 10 million in cap space for this season. He can upgrade at D and wing if he so chooses. As far as buyouts at seasons end? Who knows how that will play out. It may be a guy who isn't even on the roster yet.

$10 mil this year, $11.7 mil next year with the lowered cap (and a few unsigned players).

Malone would be a good candidate for the "trade, then buyout" scenario, seeing as TBL have too many others to buyout.

Wow, feels great to be back. Haven't been here since April. Anyway, I have a hard time thinking Shero will go into the playoffs (assuming we make it) with the D we currently have. And considering the amount of Cap room we have, I definitely see a move being made. The dumping of Staal and Michalek, along with the signing of Vokoun look so freaking good right now.
