Tv picture sizes

Postby Pavel Bure on Mon Jan 07, 2013 2:13 am

So I have an HDTV and have tried all picture sizes but I've noticed in the last month that programs are stretching further than the screen no matter what aspect ratio. It's on all networks. Did something change on the cable end with the size they pump in shows? It's super annoying when trying to read anything on the screen or if its a panoramic shot. Commercials still fit fine but shows themselves do not. What gives?

Are you connecting to the TV through coaxial cable or HDMI? Some channels are broadcasting in wide screen and it won't fit the screen properly without HDMI input. I have an HD TV but I'm using a smaller box from Comcast that doesn't support hdmi, and espn fits to small and CBS fits to wide.

It's an HDMI cable.

With your cable box powered off hit the menu button to see if you can get into the low level setup menu.

is your picture stretched uniformly, meaning that it bleeds over the edge proportionally on all sides?

that sounds like an overscan issue - though I'm not sure why it would just show up suddenly. find out of the cable box's menu has any choices for overscan/pixel mapping.
