What happens if Martin gets bought out after this year and Kennedy and Tangradi don't resign?

Marc Andre Fleury sucks, start Vokoun ... there, the Martin hate should be abated at least until the next post.
There always has to be a whipping boy, it's kind of like Jr. High.

How bad does a player have to perform to transition from "omg whipping boy" to "horribly underperforming player"?

Well, there's multiple variables... one of which is 'size of contract'
And to answer your question directly, a smidge worse than Martin

There have been times where Martin hasn't underperformed, but people were too busy nitpicking his game to notice.

Martin admits he had a horrible year. Why whip the whippers? You're just perpetuating violence...

Whitney was not a bad player.
Martin had a bad year. Whether or not that was directly related to being partnered with someone who wanted out is to be determined at a later time.

Says you... You'll NEVER convince me of that.
In all my years watching hockey, I've only seen one other Penguin who was so afraid of contact, and Dan Quinn was atleast a Winger.

As much as I dislike Martin, I hope he proves me wrong. Anyone who is not a fan of his only has to gain by him having a solid season. How can him playing well and making us better be bad aside from people having to eat crow? I never want a player to perform badly.
That being said, my faith in Martin is low. I'm not sure what the stipulations are with the buyouts as far as when they have to be done. If any buyouts have to be done BEFORE the start of the 2013/2014, I think it's a good bet that this will be Martin's last season to make cap-room to resign the important UFAs that come due after the 2013/2014 season...especially with Despres, Morrow and possibly Harrington knocking on the door.

Has anyone ever assembled a history of the semi-official LGP whipping boy? What would it look like?
Paul Martin (2011-2013)
Tyler Kennedy (2008-2010)
Ryan Whitney (2007-2008)
Rob Scuderi (2006)
Rico Fata (2005)
Josef Melichar (2003-04) (maybe Robsef Scuderichar)
Aleksey Morozov? (2002)
???

I think its funny that everyone assumes the Pens will buy out Paul Martin (or anyone really)... The Pens are a 'break even' team who have openly said they have to get to atleast the second round to turn a meaningful profit. These are real dollars coming out of Mario and Burkles pocket and I don't believe that there is a whole ton of extra flying around like the Rangers or others have..

If the cap was set to the original $60M that was being floated, he would have almost had to have been bought out. At $64.3M, the Pens have $11M to fill a roster next year with roughly 8 players instead of only having $7M. I think he stays.
