Per Bob McKenzie:
No interconference.
4 vs two teams, 5 vs 2 teams in division
3 vs other 10 teams.
So we get to play two ATL teams 5 times. I'm guessing Philly and if the NHL wants better TV the Rangers. That will depend on who they think will be a better TV draw, us or Philly getting the rags an extra game.

Philly and NY Rangers are most likely if you believe that they want minimal disruption to what is already scheduled.
Games already scheduled against Atlantic
New Jersey: 1 (1 home, 0 away)
NY Islanders: 3 (2 home, 1 away)
NY Rangers: 5 (2 home, 3 away)
Philadelphia: 5 (3 home, 2 away)
The Philadelphia thing is a little interesting, considering there is talk of adding another game against them in Philly on January 19th. I guess if thats true, and if this format is true, they'd have to swap opponents on one of the other games. The adding of that game made a lot more sense back when i thought they'd have 7 games against division foes, not 4/5 games.

I don't like them not doing home and homes against the division. why was 48 such an important number?
Why not 6 against division opponents and 2 against the rest of the conference for 44?

When the schedule is released, anyone know if Winnipeg will still play in the Southeast?

I haven't bothered to do the math, but is this format more compressed in terms of average # games / week than past Olympic years?

Well, it's 15 weeks from the 19th until the end of April. If they go to the end of April, it would be average of 3 games a week with some weeks needing 4 games.
Also consider that they will be starting roughly around the same time as the all star break normally would be, and I think usually you have around 38-40 games to go at the break and that's with season ending in mid April.
I would think it would be somewhere in the middle of a normal year and olympic year depending on end date.

Btw just throwing this out there. I'd be down for buying 2-3 tix for a Sunday game if anyone wants to sell. Hell any night would be cool.

Is it confirmed it'd be am afternoon game? I doubt they'd change that since nbc would want it

If it's in Philly - Penn State plays Vermont @ Wells Fargo Center at 7:30.

And it certainly won't be in Pittsburgh at night. Duquesne basketball has Consol booked at 7pm on the 19th.
Not only that, but I doubt they're going to wipe any of the current home games off of the schedule. It'd seem silly to give up a date you already have the arena booked for. And Philly has a home game scheduled the 19th (against non-conference Calgary, which is why it makes sense that it'd become the Pens, who were supposed to play non-conference Minnesota on the road on the 19th).

Pens do have a home and home with the flyers on the old 2012-2013 schedule on March 24th/March 26th. I see no reason to change that for the new schedule, so I'd say its a safe bet.

Saturday could be an afternoon game, but I doubt that NBC would put a hockey game on a Sunday afternoon when the NFL playoffs are on. I guess it could be just on local TV if they had to play Sunday afternoon.

I don't see any other way to do the first game against the Flyers other than in Philly in the afternoon on the 19th. And this is only a guess, but I think the home opener will be Monday the 21st against New Jersey, or possibly Montreal.
