Who gives a ****? It had nothing to do with his performance.. One of the greatest players of all time, and everyone knows it. Just make it official.

Don't break the rules. Why is there no accountability anymore for anything. He was a great player. HIS actions deemed himself ineligible for participation in the Hall of Fame. He did this. He bet on baseball. He bet on games involving his own team (no rule differentiation between betting for or against your own team). Why would he not be accountable for his actions?

Why? Because they have rules and adhere to them?

I think it is a joke but it has nothing to do with this.

That was added the year before Rose was eligible and after the Dowd Report. The HoF is a museum and should be comprehensive.

So?

Is there anyone that thinks Pete Rose doesn't deserve a HoF bid? I understand that he broke a rule, and should be held accountable. However, that rule shouldn't even be there. Do you think that's a good rule? What's it accomplishing?

You asked for the rule. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Is there any Pete Rose items at all in the HoF like the ball from his record breaking hit? If so then that is sufficient

Should he be banned from baseball? Absolutely. Not the Hall though. The BBWA seem to want baseball to be viewed as a pristine sport. They'll keep out those who have tainted the game. It's moronic and it's a false history of the game.

That's not a rule on betting, that's just a rule that was added to keep Rose out. And it didn't exist when he committed his violations.

But it did exist before his eligibility. Pete Rose brought this on Pete Rose.

Where is the accountability on LGP? First we are stealing hot sauce from Chipolte and now we don't want rules to exist because we don't like them

Isn't the rule banning him from baseball enough? The rule to be banned from the HoF came about after the act, so you can't make the argument that he needs to be held accountable by staying out of the hall. Whatev though, a little statue in a museum isn't going to change anyone's opinion.

What is the point of this rule? The betting on baseball rule for MLB makes sense. This rule for keeping people out of the HoF doesn't make sense and serves no purpose.

Well considering one of the qualifications for entry is and always has been "integrity", I could see how they would want to exclude those who are deemed ineligible to participate in the MLB.

It's highly possible, probable even, that if Rose didn't purposely throw games when he was a manager, he at least shaved points.

I repect the way Rose played (Charlie Hustle), but IMHO he does not belong in the HoF.

The betting has nothing to do with his on field performance. That's what merits HoF consideration. Put the betting stuff on the plaque.

If his records are displayed in the HoF I don't really think it matters whether he is in or not.
