Since he took a hometown discount to play with Crosby. Or Malkin. Or Mario.
I still got Malone's jersey so I'd be all for it,

Yeah, for this season and this season only, I see very little downside in the Pens signing another winger (or d-man for that matter). The Pens have plenty of cap space and a couple clear needs--top 6 winger and top 4 d-man. If there's someone out there who has red flags (injuries, age, etc.) and the Pens sign him for a one-year deal or trade the proverbial bag of pucks for him, what's the worst that can happen? The guy doesn't work out and the Pens go back to Tangradi/Jeffrey/Bennett/Niskanen/Engelland/etc. and then let the guy walk or buy him out in the summer.

The list of UFAs is kind of suspect:

Our top six isn't looking to bad right now, the biggest experiment of camp will be Kennedy with Malkin and Neal. If that works out i think our top 6 isn't looking to bad. Crosby had 50 goals with Duper and Kuny that one year. But i think Sid might be looking to become more of a play maker so he can stay out of high traffice areas then Bennette should be given a shot.

There was this dude on HF (I know, I know) back in 2006 who argued, like his life depended on it, that Petr Prucha not only was a better, more talented player than Sid but that he'd have the better career. It was hysterical.

I don't think we need either, but I wouldn't be upset if Malone came back. Definitely a no to Knuble though.

I don't think we'll have to worry too much about that this year.

Oh, yeah! Of course, you remember that!

Well thats true, but only because he didn't work well with Crosby. He looked good with Malkin. Malone Malkin Sykora was an effective line.
I remember Malone making the comment when he was with the Pens that Geno was fun to play with because he was easygoing. I took this as a subtle dig at Sid, who has been known to be very demanding of his linemates. Sure, Sid can play with slow guys like Malone and Guerin, but his game is better suited to having faster linemates. I say try a speedster like Bennett and see what happens before bringing in anyone from the outside.

How ridiculous is this idea: Sergei Mozyakin?
He obviously has tremendous chemistry with Malkin as they have been lighting up the Russian league. He's also very experienced despite not at the NHL level.
Dupuis-Crosby-Kunitz
Neal-Malkin-Mozyakin
Just to throw out a left field idea

The main concern for me is not the top 6 but the bottom 6, especially if Kennedy skates with Geno and Neal. Sutter and Cooke are great bottom 6 guys, as good as anyone in the league in their roles. But beyond that, there is not much grit or speed. Adams looked awful last season, totally washed up and slow. There's just not enough grit. Jeffrey and Tangradi have a shot but they are not that physical or fast. Perhaps a player like Wichester may be more of what they need rather than another old slow guy like Knuble or Malone? Just a thought.
