I'm going to select the best defenseman in team history. I'm surprised, but ecstatic he fell to me.

Francois Leroux!!

And to top it all off, I'm going to take the best center ever to put on a Pens uniform:

Milan Kraft!

Kraft was who was considering picking, but went with Arnason instead...

Ok, that concludes the draft. Took us about a month, much faster than I expected!
- There is a brief time now for add/drop. Though, the pickin' is slim...
- Please review your lineups here:
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=60027&p=2251670#p2251670and either make adjustments on your own and post them here or simply tell me what needs to be changed and I'll change it for you.
Note: When setting your lineup. Please include:
- A captain
- At least one alternate captain (max 2)
- Two, 5-man power play units
- Two, 4-man penalty kill units
This shouldn't take but a couple of minutes...so we'll expect them in pretty short order if at all possible. Thanks.

My team:
Coach: Scotty Bowman
Kelly-Bullard-Pronovost
Barnes-Straka-Tocchet
Hadfield-Schock-McDonough
Bourque-Hrdina-Bianchin/Naslund
X-Naslund/Bianchin, Kraft
Coffey-Zalapski
Slegr-Werenka
Martin-Campbell
X-Mccallum, Tamer
Wregget
Johnson
PP1:
Tocchet-Bullard-Pronovost
Coffey-Slegr
PP2:
Kelly-Straka-Barnes
Zalapski-Martin
PK1:
Barnes-Schock
Coffey-Werenka
PK2:
Straka-Bourque
Slegr-Martin
Captain: Jean Pronovost
Alternates: Ron Schock, Mike Bullard
I figured it was easier just to do the whole thing through my notes. Moved a winger or 2 to the other side, but it's basically what you have.

Leroux ahead of Jonsson and Melichar? Now that really hurts.

Thought the same thing, but he wanted some more muscle I'm assuming.

I almost did it with Coffey, but then realized it would be a waste of having Zalapski not on the PP.

My strategy is to take as many penalties as possible, because I have a ton of good PKers.

Thought about it. Didn't fit with the direction of the team. I want to show that Michel Therrien is in charge. The captain is a heady future coach, the two A's are consummate professional, forthright players that liked to play here.

Ok, I've updated post #24 with your changes. If in your continued research, you want to tweak more, just let me know.
What my itinerary is -- and I'm very open to ideas.
Things I want to accomplish:
- Discuss "best of" a position (i.e. the 5 best offensive centers, the 5 best defensive wingers, the 10 best goalies, etc.)
- Discuss the good and bad of the composition of teams. (What's weak? What's strong? Whose first line is best? Whose second pairing is best? etc.)
- Open it up to the public for their thoughts, feelings, commentary. Remember, they didn't do the research we did, some of the names don't mean as much to them as they will to us. Modern bias will run rampant, both positive and negative.
.................Rylan, you think Marc-Andre Fleury is the best goalie in team history, some people feel that he's going to lose his job to over-the-hill Tomas Vokoun...on the contrary, the lasting memory of Fleury is his save on Nicklas Lidstrom to win the Stanley Cup. These biases don't exist so readily with Les Binkley for obvious reasons.
> I'd really recommend whipping up a couple of bios if you can. Grab a couple of quotes that state what the player did and how good he was at it if you can. Again, Google News and Legends of Hockey are great places to look. Lots of Pittsburgh area papers readily searchable with Google News, just type the name and a date range and you can skim it and find some good stuff. This thread itself, I've tried to comment on many picks, others have been involved discussion throughout. Make a little something that someone can click on and go, "ah, I see...24 goals led the team that year...I guess that is a pretty good season" or "he was a mainstay on 3 of the best penalty kills in team history?!?!" or whatever...20 goals in 1967 is not 20 goals in 1981 is not 20 goals in 2004 is not 20 goals in 2006...context matters!
You don't have to go really deep into it...but some background wouldn't be bad...especially for the older players because we're relatively familiar with Sidney Crosby. Be proud of your picks and defend them. But be honest as you're also trying to educate as well.
If I'm making a profile of Kevin Hatcher, I couldn't remove all the stuff about him being soft, tuned out and passive defensively...otherwise he looks like a flawless offensive force. You can highlight good, but don't just ignore bad. Honestly, we're all picking from the same relatively shallow (though top-heavy) organization...your gonna have major flaws on at least half your players probably...it's ok.
There's a lot of close races out there that really are still open-ended...
Best goalie (Barrasso/Fleury)
3rd-5th best goalie...(...the rest)
Crosby vs. Malkin for second best center...
Who are the best defensemen ever after Coffey? It is Coffey, right? What about opposites like Carlyle and Burrows? Stackhouse and Kasparaitis?
and countless others...state your claim!
If you can...do one, toss it up, you'll find it to be pretty cool I think once the ball gets rolling...
At the end of the discussion, profile-creation, etc. I'd like to have a short playoffs.
Feel free to make suggestions, etc.

I'm assuming people are putting together some things for their players (see: above). I'll give it a couple more days and then we'll move on to the next step regardless.
