I'm thinking about doing the dogfish 5K this year, but if I can't get my 5K time to a respectable level I'll have too much pride to do it. I don't want my name on runners high with like 25 minute plus time.

Yeah I'm at like 26-27 now. I want to be down below 22. I'm doing a couple 5ks this year. Well i'm signed up for 1, but probably doing another 1 or two beyond that.

You can probably immediately drop a couple of minutes cause of the race adrenaline...so you might be atleast pretty close to 22 if you were to do a race now.

I know that I could, but I want to be running that speed regularly. Thats more just for my fitness, not for the race time.

Did my usual HIIT workout this morning....I love how short and efficient it is. 2.5 miles and 340 calories burned in 20 minutes.

My workouts are all 30 minutes, I refuse to put more time than that into a workout. Usually am able to rapidly do enough exercises that i get a good workout in. Or I just run for 30.

Down to two new lows, 174.6 lb and 13.6% body fat. At this point, I am primarily concerned with getting the BF down around 10%, hence the HIIT. Not really wanting to lose any more weight at this point.

how tall are you?

You're nearing 10% BF and you can't run a 25 minute 5k?

I think I'm getting you confused with someone else

If I add 6 pounds of Lean muscle this year, I'll be ecstatic.

I haven't ran a 5k since last fall, which was around 26:30. I think the next one I run, I might try some variation of the HIIT stuff (sprint for as long as I can, cut back to a 10-10:30 pace for a little while, rinse/repeat). I feel like when you average them out, it will be a pretty decent time, as opposed to just pacing myself the same over 3.1 miles.

:thumb: Solid Plan.

Oh and don't get me wrong, it wasn't my intent to come off disapproving or anything like that of your 5k time... FWIW, I refuse distance running because I find it boring unless I do it with someone else... Runner's high is great but lifting gives me the same high... idk I just don't like distances (3 mile and above) lol. I do ride bikes though (BMX and Moutain Biking)

Just my two cents on running races:
I always found that ignoring the rabbits was best and I was able to improve my pace as the races wore on. Obviously you're only running against yourself, but on a physical and psychological level, I think it's best to not burn yourself out in the first 3/4 of a mile...let the runners high kick in and power through the last mile at a really nice pace.

I need to start running. I finally bought a pair of sneakers that I seem to be able to run in and not have any problems in them. Now, I just need a little more motivation to go out and actually do it.

I've never gotten runner's high, but I agree that letting people blast off at the finish and going slower is a great idea. If you do that you'll end up passing 50% of those people in the next three miles.

lol, I was always one of those people that was a bit averse to going down to where all of the free weights/barbells were. I guess I was intimidated? Wednesday night, I went down and did a bunch of sets of squats, curls, presses, etc. My quads are more sore than they have ever been in my entire life. It makes me realize how much I was shortchanging myself using the other machines.

Yeah I'm ok with using free weights. I will not bench press though, I really only use them for bi and triceps. I use machines for pretty much everything else. I like machines because its easier to keep good form and force myself to do full reps when i'm feeling lazy.

Yeah, I still like the row, pulldown, etc for sure. I just couldn't believe how much more wiped out I felt afterwards doing that

I never do arm exercises, seems like a waste of time to work on such small muscles that you use when doing other exercises.

I pretty much isolate with my current workouts. Have to do arms because even when i'm using them in other exercises, its really only geting shoulders involved. You can put a lot of work on the shoulders without really using your arms.

What exercises press the shoulders, besides shoulder exercises? You use your biceps for basically every back exercise and I think dips are enough for me for triceps.

I use my biceps when I eat, that doesn't mean they're getting any meaningful workout.

When I come home from the gym on HIIT days, I usually do as many pushups and situps as I can do in one set, then call it a day.
