If the players want him, he'll be back in 8 or so years, take a year to learn the deal, then push the lockout to the brink of another cancelled season in order to get "the best deal" for the players. He's convinced the players that's the only path and they believe him. I don't think this tactic works as well if he stays in the position.
Yeah its definitely his prerogative to risk a cancelled season. He certainly hasn't overseen the longest period of labor peace in NA sports.
Yea, a lockout is great for the sport, and baseball is so awesome, I love watching future Yankees and Red Sox players down at PNC. I'm sorry - I know what he did taking a "year to learn", it was an obvious attempt to cause this lockout. If that's what the players wanted - fine, I hope it was worth it for them. For me - Don Fehr's "year to learn" may have meant that I missed quite a few penguin games during the prime of 2 of the most talented players in the world. Hopefully next time - we don't need a "year to learn" before negotiating starts, that's all I'm saying. It's possible the extra negotiating time would not have helped, but regardless of that, it was still obvious what Fehr was doing in my opinion.
The Crosby hate is in full force on my FB wall. The skins are out of the playoffs so all these people are now just hating on Crosby because that game where the puck thingy is on the ice with that awesomest bestest player in the ever OHVEE is starting soon.

The Skins aren't just out of the playoffs- they may have lost RGIII for part of next year. These guys are probably brimming full of irrational anger and hate! This pleases me.
Its annoying when people on a message board talking about something they are allegedly passionate about are ignorant, but its his job to know what he's talking about. What a moron.
Are you really complaining that he needed time to learn the sport/sport's CBA history?
I think the issue is subverting the process, and this is just one of many ways he did so. If you are questioning whether qualified representation in fact needs to be qualified before it can represent, I think the proof is certainly available. When your representation only cares about getting over on that greedy, heartless ownership group, he wins all the financial battles he can, but generally everything else about sport -- you know, the part where people play a game and fans come to watch -- suffers. The economics of baseball have never been better, but the sport has never been worse. That's what I have taken away from this lockout.
Erik Cole says he may retire after this year because he doesn't like the CBA....Good luck walking away from your 4 year $18mill deal that you were lucky to secure....

John Buccigross @Buccigross This is nice, NHL, but a little arrogant. You aren't hockey. You are a small part. Hockey never went anywhere. You did http://ow.ly/gLr7N
