yeah, i think just for contract reasons alone, bennett would have had to have a phenomenal camp to stay on the team. which means he probably won't be staying on the team. they'll see what tangradi can do and give him the boot if he sucks.

Sounds like Tangradi gets the nod with Malkin & Neal for tonight's scrimmage.

And Bylsma will have Bennett playing 7 minutes on the 4th line and people will question Bennett's ability because he hasn't scored playing alongside Craig Adams and Tanner Glass
Precisely.... player development hasn't exactly been the Pens' strong suit over the last 5 years and a lot of it is because of this sort of handling of rookies. They haven't had a top 6 F or top 4 D developed in-house in at least 3 years (maybe Gogo?).

I'm pretty sure that BB's skill set (in relation to Tangradi) would still be evident on the 4th line.

It's team powerplay vs. team penalty kill.

If both Tangradi and Despres make this team, the Pens will be getting BIGGER. They're the two tallest guys in the organization outside of Big Mac.

I was hoping they'd put Despres and Morrow against our top forwards to see how they'd do. Oh well. I'm excited to see some of our prospects play on television.

Not to mention Bortuzzo and Dumoulin, all three are 6'4" 215+.

Crosby is the smallest player on his team.

Looks like pairs may be Martin-Orpik, Niskanen-Engelland, Letang-Despres to open the season the way this all shakes out

The fact that they have yet to try him with Malkin is the biggest surprise for me so far. It seems to me that they are looking at him as their utility player for the season that could reasonably play any forward position in case of injury, and they're going to hold him in reserve until needed.
Think of him as the new Max Talbot. Fine on the 4th line and killing penalties, but not out of place if you need to put him into a scoring role for a stretch.

re: Letang-Despres
The organization needs to see if Despres can handle top 4 duties ASAP. So I'm glad they're not pussyfooting around with him.

Off-topic, but those who wished the Penguins never left Johnson go last year have the opportunity to get him back. Phoenix placed him on waivers today. (How did they get him in the first place?)
