A buddy just told me he heard the Flyers had claimed Strait. I couldn't find this info anywhere and I also thought that this wouldn't be known until tomorrow but I'm unsure how waivers works.

I didn't say Tor claimed him. Someone posted it on twitter.

Right, that was my point. Someone said he got claimed the day he was placed on waivers, and he ended up not being claimed.

They just buried Lilja in the AHL and will be hit with dead cap space of $630K. Add on Strait's $605 and then also the fact they have 7 defensemen still I don't see why they would pick up Strait to waste more cap space.

So with Bennett, Megna and Straight sent down, the Pens are now at 23 players, with 8 defensemen. I can't see them keeping 8 D-men all season, but who knows.

They don't have to worry about cap space so they will keep 23 at all times. If they make any switches you might see Depres down and Bennett up or something along those lines (injuries excluded).

Guys, this is how waivers work:
1. Waivers announced shortly after noon on Day 1.
2. Internet rumors are dumb.
3. Noon the next day, we find out the facts about who got claimed and who passed.
4. ???
5. Profit.

Also who cares if we lose Strait... yeah, he's a nice player, but like, he's a dime a dozen, and we don't need him.

I agree, it's not like he's a huge part of this team moving forward....however he is nice call up depth.
My fear is that the Flyers do claim him and he turns out to be the next Scuderi haha.

My beef is Strait has a lot of room to improve and might be better than Lovejoy. He has potential to be an above average penalty killer.
But big picture it won't hurt long term to lose him with Letang, Despres, Harrington, Morrow, Pouliot and Maata along with Bortuzzo, Dumoulin and Samuelsson in the system.

That's the only possible rub.
IMO, we've seen Lovejoy's ceiling and with 8 D on the roster, it might have been worth keeping Strait around to see if he could eclipse that.
However, it probably doesn't really matter.

Strait has a chance to slip through waivers. Lovejoy, IMO, does not.
I suspect Shero is working the phones, trying to move Lovejoy. I don't expect us to stick with 8 D for long.

Haha, sorry for the stupid post. I get most of my Pens knowledge from reading this board. That is why I asked for help to confirm what I had heard. I don't live in Pittsburgh so I have few people around me who are able to talk hockey. I found out that the rumor started on HF Boards as a joke.

I found it interesting that in his interview during the Black/Gold scrimmage, Shero stated that the roster on Saturday may be different next week.

How was the waiver order determined prior to the start of the season? Is it the order in which the teams finished? If that's the case, there are several other teams that might take Strait on waivers before the Flyers had a chance to claim him.

Reverse order from last season.
Typically after X days or games On Nov 1, it switches to reverse order of the current season.
