If it makes us feel any better.... not many better choices below Keven Veilleux in the draft..... Jamie Benn followed by a few various fringe NHLers.... I had no idea that draft was so bad (to this point)

Does this mean that 99% of rappers are getting suspended, as well?

poker face.
---
I remember near the end of 2006 there was a time when Angelo Esposito was ranked #1 overall, and Kevin Veilleux was like 10th. I missed this draft and when I found out Esposito fell to us I was pretty excited like everyone else, and then I couldn't believe we got Veilleux in the 2nd round. Furthermore, it might have been the 2008 or 2009 camp, I swear if you didn't know anything about the Penguins, players, or even hockey and watched that entire camp, you would've thought Veilleux was our best player.
I guess just nagging injuries and lack of motivation.

I still would ahve prefered to see Oscar Moller who was picked right after him evenh though he didn;t pan out with the Kings.
Other notables with some hindsight:
Wayne Simmonds
Jamie Benn
And that's pretty much it. What a horrible draft and I think we can say that after almost 6 years. Sutter might end up being the 4th best player taken after Kane, Couture and Benn.

I just look at it like we drafted Hossa that draft.

I think that's giving Shero an undeserved free pass though. Just because he later traded Esposito for Hossa doesn't change the fact that it was a bad draft pick.

It's just the nature of the draft that even some higher picks don't pan out. Crap happens. *shrug*

Well, when you jump on someone whose stock is in free fall, you better know something the other 19 guys didn't.

I don't think Shero believed he was getting a better player than Patrick Kane.

I'm also not so sure if we took Simmonds or Benn and they played well in Juniors if Shero would have pulled the trigger. Esposito being trash made moving him an easy call.

Wait, Esposito or Vellieux?
I don't tihnk Esposito at 20th overall was a bad pick at all. Shero drafts heavily with BPA. If some of your guys aren't there, draft BPA for value. I'm surprised you think it was a bad pick.

He should be released from his contract altogether. Not only for this act, but for the fact that he did this and is the underachiever he is as a player.
The Pens need an "up or out" mentality in their organization now that all the top 5 picks are in the NHL, and they still waste too much time on guys like this hoping they'll "get it" one day. He is a talented, but headless player. This only cements that.
