What would you program?

Postby redwill on Tue Feb 12, 2013 2:59 pm

If you had your own cable channel?

I was flipping through DirecTV's guide and was astonished at the carp there.

So you have your own cable channel to program. Forget the copyright lawyers. Forget the ad people.

It's a work in progress, but here are some things on redwillTV:

Mystery Science Theater 3000
QI (UK)
Northern Exposure
Hogan's Heroes
M*A*S*H
Match Game
Top Gear (UK)
WKRP in Cincinnati
News Radio
St. Elsewhere
The Daily Show
The Colbert Report
Frances and Friends
Pens Hockey (duh)
Movie of the Day: John Wayne ...

Always something to watch while wasting away the days until I die!

12am-6am law and order svu, since I'll probably be asleep, but if I was up, I'd probably leave it on.
6am-9am a block of 80s cartoons (gi Joe, transformers, etc.)
9am-11am Saved By the Bell
11am-12am The Price is Right
12pm-4pm cheesy movie double feature, focusing on 90'a direct to video stuff
Then, the rest of the day, I'd probably go with that Kate Upton webcam that vlb was talking about.

sad to say but if i wanted to make $$ id have the celebrity idiotfest programs on all day. Kardashians, Snookie, and everything else that appeals to low information idiots.

i was talking to some friends about when Jerry Garcia died. I was in jr high on summer vacation - my world revolved around MTV. They quit playing videos for days to run tributes to him and the Dead - concerts, videos, interviews, etc etc. That would only happen now if Snooki or Bieber died. VH1 is the same.

History, Discovery, TLC, A&E. These are supposed to be educational programs - they were the best. Now they're just full of famewhores. Unfortunately, they are that way because thats what makes money.

Policies of my network

1. Everything is shown uncensored. It's on cable, the FCC can't regulate it, so I won't either
2. Every show/Movie will be played without commercials.
3. After every show/movie the equivalent of 10 mins of commercials per every normal half hour of show will be played. A countdown clock will be shown in the bottom right of the screen letting people know how much more time of commercials there are and what is coming next.
This means a show that is ~22 mins will be followed by 10 mins of commercials. A movie that is 2 hours long will be followed by 40 mins of commercials.

Other than that I don't know exactly what my programming would be.

I would be willing to bet that if/when the network received viewership the advertisers would come. Not to mention I'm sure there are advertisers other networks turn away. For example I saw an advertisement for Brazzers TV when the bar was closing down the other night. Advertising revenue wouldn't be a problem as long as people watched.

People won't watch 10 minutes of ads. The first and last ad would be quite important and expensive but after that the avg viewers per ad would drop exponentionally until probably the 8 minute mark or so where viewers would begin tuning in. Unless advertising changed into more infomercial like the advertisers would stay away...your high viewer ship would not be helpful to advertisers in the slightest
