Responsible with the puck and can play defensively well. It's what that line needed. It doesn't need anymore scoring talent.
Your thoughts?

He's certainly not the answer in the long run.

It sure was amazing what the second line looked like this evening with a competent player on the LW tonight.

Well that is a completely different story, this is the team we have right now and I think he has earned that spot.

He's the first NHL left wing they've put on that line. His qualifications are staggering.

RS and HCDB must be shell-shocked by the results of playing a player in their natural position

LOL just got into a twitter bout with Kevin Weekes over this. Caught him on NHL Live doing everything but blame Cooke, then when flat out asked said , "I'm not going to speculate." He pulled the ol "I haven't ever seen u in the NHL in my 20 years but thanks anyway" crap. We made up tho cuz I actually like him

Cooke had a great game tonight. I don't think he's a long-term solution with Malkin and Neal, but I think putting Cooke with them was a great move.
And overshadowing it all....
"Totally looks like a freak accident. But it's Matt Cooke...."
"But it's Matt Cooke" isn't an argument. I wouldn't accept "But it's Aidan, so of course!" from my 6-year-old niece if I asked her if her little brother hit her on purpose.
I completely empathize with how upset Sens fans are--they should be. As a hockey fan, I'm bummed out, too; Karlsson is amazing. Some of us were upset at Steckel's and Hedman's hits on Sid and Subban's skate on Staal's foot regardless of our individual feelings on whether or not any of those incidents were intentional. It sucks seeing such a young, dynamic player seriously injured and wondering if they'll return in the same form again.
But the fan campaign to burn Matt Cooke at the stake has me really ticked off to the point where I'm becoming irrational at the witch hunters' irrationality.

And don't get me started on Bryan Murray.

I actually think cooke will work on that line. He is going to forecheck, fight along the boards and hell get the puck to malkin or neal. He'll make the small hockey plays the line needs.

relatively new to being a hockey fan
They put on Cooke on Crosby's line last year and he scored at a remarkable clip.
They put Cooke on Geno's line and he looks great.
Why can't he be the "long term answer"?

I think he is the first player this season to get a point playing left wing on that line. By default that makes him a keeper. Cooke did have a stretch on Crosbys line last season where he scored.
Boychuk looked ok on the 3rd line but lacks size in a checking roll.

I wasn't upset with either of those hits on Crosby, so am I well within my right to think Sens fans are idiots for being angry at Cooke?

Kennedy isn't the biggest player. you lost your physical element to that line with cooke up there.
Maybe you plugged in vitale for kennedy because he will hit everything in site and you give jeffery 4th line center duties
pushing kennedy to the press box

KW is solid, hate that crap about not playing in NHL too, but there are raving fanatics who sometimes need to be shutdown (not you) and this is one of the few ways to do so.
I've been saying that Geno's line needs a "Kunitz type player". Cooke does not have the offense, but he can bang bodies and is better defensively. I really do not feel this is a long term solution as Cooke is a key PK guy, and everyone needs a role (that is Cookes forte). As the seasons matures, teams will be falling off, and players will become available...... patience grasshoppers.

Within your right to think Sens fans are idiots for being angry? Absolutely--no reason for you to ask. I was just expressing my empathy for Sens fans.
I didn't have to be angry at Steckel and Hedman to be upset for Sid and bummed at not being able to see him play. On that point, I've edited to use a qualifier, "Many" or "some of us were upset..." OK, better.
