Pens win 4 - 2
- Sid was fantastic. Loved him and Chris Neil exchanging cracks late in game behind Ottawa net
- Karlsson's injury was accidental. A few initial comments by TSN commentators were poorly stated and may have created a controversy (to their credit, they backed off, but damage done)
- Cooke produces with Neal/Malkin, wtf. Great screen/tip by Cooke in front
- Letang's impact was felt, and he didn't overdue it. Nisky seemed a little tentative and took a spill stepping on puck, did he play after that?
- Neal is the real deal... TSN was pointing out he'd look good w/Sid in Sochi
- Look for Mike Johnson (TSN color guy) to one day join the former Falcons now coaching behind the Pens bench (HCDB, ACJR).
- Feel bad for Ottawa. Pens took out Spezza & Karlsson = season over. Start picking over their corpse roster
- Interesting to hear the Ottawa bench on TSN feed, yelling to shoot low on MAF, lots of rebounds (true dat)

I have to say, Engelland was terrible last night...and terrible is putting it nicely. He was so far out of position on the second OTT goal, he may as well have not even been out there.

- Great game overshadowed by Karlsson's unfortunate injury. Any other Pens player besides Cooke and it wouldn't be a controversy.
- Having Letang and Nisky back were a blessing.
- Keep Cooke with Neal and Malkin!!!

Also, re: Karlsson. It really is too bad. That kind of injury is tough to come back from and still be the same kind of player. He's young enough to do it, but you have to feel terrible for him.

Agreed, he was on top of the world, playing better and better. EK was interviewed pre-game on TSN, talking about how difficult it will be to stop Malkin/Crosby (even said they can't be stopped in some ways). I really admire him, so hoping for a full recovery.

Engellend was dressed to deal with the cement heads the Sens still employ. He kept Neil at bay until the end of the game. But Bortuzzo is a better defenseman.
Keep Despres with Letang please and Nisky with Bortuzzo, there is some great potential there that will pay off in April.
I did see Niskanen after he took that spill so he should be OK. I also noticed him and Sid talking strategy on the bench after the 2nd period ended and everyone had already left for the locker room. Good to see.
Ottawa's management and coaching staff are an embarrassment. I only wish it was Niskanen or Glass that had been involved in the accident so Murray wouldn't dare open his mouth to say their names repeatedly.

Yeah, he got caught, but he added to the Pens in other ways. Chris Neil started to run around looking for retribution, but he and Engy had a litte face to face, Neil decided it was only going to be Cooke after that
And thank the hockey gods that Alfie has finally past his prime, he missed 3-4 glorious chances last night.

Good; almost sixty shots combined, but with both goalies making good and lucky saves.
RDJN!
Sid channeling his inner Chris Minard; twice.
Best fun; end of 2nd, Alfie, who has some wild locks, thinks he got a goal & is ready to celebrate… tee-hee!
And the runner up is their coach’s reaction after Neil punches out Cooke.
Welcome back Leteng & matty niskenan! Thumbs up to the group on for sens 5 on 3, 2nd period. Nice D!
impressive 3rd period power play; in the pens zone for more than the 2 mins!
Healing vibes to the young karlsson. Injuries happen as the penguins are all too aware of.
*edit, had no idea what Columbia meant until I saw this with the different color scheme. I was going to do the valentines red, but didn't.

i can be special.

SUFFERIN SUCCOTASH! I know it's evil to make fun of a speech impediment, but Cryin' Bryan makes himself an easy target.
He and MacLean are passionate guys and understandably upset about the loss of Karlsson, so I'll give their remarks a pass for now. Hopefully, they'll apologize in a few days. But I doubt it.

I doubt anyone who really looks at the play with an unbiased opinion will say Cooke did it intentionally, so who cares what an idiot like Murray has to say?

I want to put a semi-end to "crowd noise debate", was at the game and then watched the Root sports coverage.
Spots in which I knew the crowd got louder were not at all audible while watching the root sports replay. The crowd noise is much louder than it sounds on TV. Is it rocking all the time? no... but the sound you hear from TV is not at all close.

I feel bad for the kid. I want to watch the teams play with their best players.
Not that it matters now, but just curious - should that play have been whislted dead, with the puck hitting the net? I didn't see the replay on that.

so naturally my non-Pens friends are crying for Cookie's head on Facebook. none of these folks wanted Subban's head after he sliced up Staal a few years ago.

- The top-end guys showed up
- The muckers and grinders look bad on several occassions. Really bad
- Crosby and Smith with a little feud going all day
- The puck clearly hit the netting before the Cooke/Karlsson incident
- If anyone thinks Cooke did that on purpose, they are an idiot
- I wish Karlsson a quick recovery

Anyone thinks that there is even the most remote chance that Cooke hurt Karlsson intentionally needs to just give up and never discuss hockey anywhere ever again.
Fleury was great, except for the goals.
the Kennedy, Sutter, Boychuck line might never score. all 3 are snake bit.
Martin is good, and I like him on the pp even if he isn't a real shooting threat. He is good at gaining the zone, makes good quick decisions, is decent at keeping pucks in at the blue line, and can still throw a low wrister on net for a deflection or rebound.
Our pp does not miss kunitz.

Gene 's got a cool scar compliments of a Mike Richards

accidental skate... just a hockey play. Uproar because of who it was. Cooke had to stand there last night and take the punches. The guy can longer even defend himself without bringing penalties.

There are kevlar cut resistant socks on the market. Apparently the socks are part of the Montreal Canadiens standard uniforms. Various players around the league wear them as well.

It needs to be required. Achilles injuries are pure horror. Havin that cut is a billion times worse.
