Yeah, Bourn landing in Cleveland hurts Stubbs too.

I have 3 serviceable 2B .... Kendrick, Altuve, and Pedroia. Wouldn't mind trading 1 of them

You can buy someone out, it would be hitting the 2013 buyout years though.

Yeah, the idea is that buyouts can be done up until the draft.

Rosters and draft picks had to be set before the draft, that covers it.

So i guess the issue is, can there be a buffer time that you can exceed the salary cap? ie, buyout ruiz and use those contract years on one of the players your signing to a deal heading into 2013?

Oh yeah, I see no reason the buyout can't occur now. Not sure why it matters if you do it now or after the draft though.

Ah, I guess that does sort of raise another issue. Good point.

I'm talking about the number of years he has to use when signing his 2013 picks. If he buys out ruiz now, the issue is, will those years be available for his new players.

He would have to leave 1 buyout year available for the extra mlb player. How many years does ruiz have on his deal?

Oh, he just has one year. That's not really the issue then either. If you want to buy him out now, go ahead. It's going to count towards your 2013 buyouts though.

1. Ruiz won't be available in the draft then.

2. You won't be able to make an extra pick. You will have to sign somebody to take his place after the draft (i.e. it won't be a prospect)

-draft rounds are hard set. no changes mid-draft.

Ruiz can be bought out now with an effective date of post-draft. Thus, he won't be available in the draft for anyone to take and you won't get an extra draft round.
