That makes sense to me. I guess the remaining issue is whether LITT gets an extra mlb draft pick.

Edit: Troy's post. I'm digesting Mr. Colby's post.

If he buys out Ruiz now, it affects his free-buyout years for 2013. His cap remains at 50.

Again, it won't become official until after the draft.

This is pretty straightforward, not sure where the confusion is coming from

Mr. Colby wrote:1. Ruiz won't be available in the draft then.

2. You won't be able to make an extra pick. You will have to sign somebody to take his place after the draft (i.e. it won't be a prospect)

-draft rounds are hard set. no changes mid-draft.

Ruiz can be bought out now with an effective date of post-draft. Thus, he won't be available in the draft for anyone to take and you won't get an extra draft round.

I have the same issue with Chris Carpenter. I'm keeping him and either buying him out or DL'ing him post-draft.

No, Litt doesn't get an extra pick in the draft

I mean, with the rigid draft rules I guess there is no room for confusion. I'm just not a big fan of the rigidity, so I guess that's where my confusion comes from.

I just am not seeing what the need is to stretch on this?

I guess if you guys really care that much, Ruiz is now an "available player" and LITT can have 1 additional MLB pick to occur in round 18.2

Edit: and he uses 2013 FB years to buyout Ruiz.

I think everyone is a little bit confused here.

LITT... what are you hoping to gain out of this?

My understanding is you want to buy out Ruiz now and be able to draft an additional major leaguer in his place... am i right?

well essentially yes but i dont want anyone to be able to draft ruiz. and if i could use a buyout from last year, that would be ideal.

OK well buyouts turn over at the start of the draft so you can't do that

Ruiz isn't available for the draft, LITT ends the draft one MLB player short(because of the Ruiz buyout) and can then sign someone, 1 FBY is used. It seems straight forward given the rules we established.

I'm inclined to say no, but I'd want to hear from others

I think being able to DL a suspended player would be an awful idea

Edit: unless they were already on the MLB DL and your teams DL upon getting suspended, then it would be okay, I think

TL/Kraft - i don't want you guys to think i'm stepping on your toes with this rules stuff. I just thought someone should try to solidify/enforce them since up until this point we've been really fly-by-the-seat-of-our-pants with them

I'm on the fence about it, leaning towards no DL. Gravity has its grip on me.

If its allowed, I'd say you can't call up a farm player for the guy.

My issue with the rigidity of the draft overall is that when we take over a month to draft, guys can get hurt and your plans can get sort of screwed. If I really need a catcher and draft one early and he gets injured in the spring, it'd be nice to be able to pick up another one in the draft.
